The activity of regional tourism has become a remarkable feature of the developmentof modern tourism and regionality has also become a regular phenomenon of economicadvance. With the formation of the top ten cities in China’s regional economic group, theresearches of regional tourism based on one or more urban agglomerations have beenattracting more and more focus. New propositions and research methods continue toemerge, causing a heated debate. After the introduction of strategies such as central rise,rise of the central plains and central Henan urban agglomeration and proposal of tourismprovince of Henan province, the regional tourism of central Henan urban agglomerationhas become a worldwide research focus. These researches mostly conduct from theaspects of regional tourism development model and spatial structure, while there is littleconcern about the disparities. Worse still, quantitative research is dominant, far fromsystematic and very weak. This article aims to disclose the disparate phenomenon andessence of central Henan urban agglomeration, exploring the differentiation pattern andcharacteristics, on basis of which we’re expected to seek development opportunities andprovide help for the enhancement of regional tourism competitiveness.The research system of regional tourism disparities abroad is basically sound, whiledomestic research is still in the stage of active exploration and rapid development. Theconcept of regional tourism differences hasn’t formed a unified statement yet. In order tocarry out research conveniently, this article try to define its concept and contents on thebasis of previous studies, determining that the main comparison objects of regionaltourism disparities include economic differences of regional tourism, market differencesof regional tourism and resources differences of regional tourism. Finally, it conducts acomprehensive comparison study on central Henan urban agglomeration.This article has evolved the Boston matrix model, mapping out tourism competitionsituation map which is suitable for comparing tourism economy. Regional tourismeconomic disparities of nine cities from central Henan urban agglomeration havebeen illustrated in the two-dimensional situation map clearly, which can be broadlydivided into three types, three echelons and the spatial pattern is obvious; It usesgeographic concentration index to analyze the market differences of the regional tourismof this city group, dividing the tourism market development level in terms of touristreceiving capacity and concentration; The nine cities have strong cultural identity and similar cultural background, so regional tourism resource abundance can only be judgedon the numeral differences. The author deems that the core tourism culture qualitativedisparity is the key to avoid the homogenization of tourism products.The research data of this article mainly refers to statistical bulletin for nationaleconomic and social development of Henan province and nine cities. Besides, this articletakes advantage of the panel data to do cluster analysis and proposing its cooperative andcompetitive game strategies about coordinated development in accordance with theregional tourism development disparities of central Henan urban agglomeration, hopingthis attempt can preliminary show the pattern and internal differences of regional tourismdevelopment and offering some references for the implementation and practice ofregional tourism development plan of the city group.
