In other districts, besides Hainan Island, many traditional settlements can not withstandthe big shock of modern uninterrupted growth economy, and the regional characteristics oftraditional settlements have fade away. However, the economic, cultural and many other areasof Hainan Island progress is relatively slow since time immemorial. Plenty of remotetraditional settlements with hard traffic and communication keep gradually evolving, andremain intact. These traditional settlements contain a lot of authentic historical informationwhich not only represent spatial morphology of traditional settlement and architecture inHainan Island, but also accumulate abundant spatial morphology information of traditionalsettlement and architecture in China’s inland provinces.Since modern era, the research on Hainan Island head for several huge climaxes, butthere are some shortages and blank field in research viewpoints. Especially, traditionalsettlements in Hainan Island which influenced by backward production mode have called bydifferent labels such as primitive, crude and simple. And few people pay attention to thesetraditional settlements all the time.Traditional settlements which fit for life and continued for several hundred years areterritorial development, evolution witness of history and the carrier. After a thousand yearsdevelopment, the continuous improvement of production process, as well as settlement andarchitecture space morphology should be the wisdom of exploring the local survival way. Thetraditional settlement and architecture space morphology of Hainan Island, located in thetropics, its apparent is revealed in the "humble","like", but does not affect the special value ofits unique geographical environment. The life outlook, outlook on word, conclude human andnature, man and man, man and society, under the traditional settlements, and the wisdom thatexpression in the settlements and architecture space morphology, is to understand the specialgeographical environment under the condition of the precious resources. The deep and systematic analysis of the characteristics of the traditional settlements andarchitectural space morphology of Hainan Island is the main purpose of this paper and thecontent. In evolution characteristics of Hainan traditional settlements and architectural spacemorphology "multi-source fusion, harmony and different" for clues, from the material carrierlevel, analysis the macrocosmic space morphology features of traditional settlements in timeand space dimensions; analysis the microcosmic space morphology features of traditionalsettlements in geographical area dimensions; and from the cultural spirit level, relying on thesubstantial analysis, based on geographical space in a larger scope, in-depth analysis of traditional architecture and spatial morphology deep meaning, and ultimately concludedcharacteristics of Hainan traditional settlements and architectural space morphology. The whole thesis involves two main clues: from the time dimension and macroscopiclevel of the Island to analysis vertically the distribution and evolution of Hainan traditionalsettlements to exploring the traditional settlement mechanism and characteristics of spatialmorphology evolution and clarifying the general characteristics of Hainan traditionalsettlements; from the spatial dimensions and micro level to analysis horizontally eachinvestigation case of the traditional settlements and architecture to exploring the differencesbetween traditional settlement and architectural space morphology, to enrich and deepen thecontent of the study.Content of the study has been decomposed into the following four mainsub-propositions:(1) the occurrence, transition and evolution characteristics of Hainan traditionalsettlements;(2) macroscopic general characteristics of the spatial morphology of Hainantraditional settlement;(3) the characteristics and the microscopic differences between regionaland national of Hainan traditional settlements and architecture spatial morphology;(4) thevalue and status of Hainan traditional settlement and architecture spatial morphology.Around those above four sub-propositions, the whole thesis mainly divided into3partsand contains8chapters.The first chapter is introduction,to elaborate why choice this topic. It particularly statesthe choice of papers’ reasons, purposes, meanings, studies of current situation, studies ofdetails, studies of methods, the technical route, the content framework and may point to doa comprehensive research and innovation exposition. The second chapter is the first part. From Hainan traditional settlements occurs, changeand evolution to explore its history and evolution of the power generated to analyze theevolution of the characteristics of s traditional settlement in Hainan Island. The part2includes chapter3、4and5.It focuses on Han and Li nationalities’ differentcategories of traditional settlement patterns of macro-and micro-architectural spacemorphology. It not only concerns with its macro common characteristics, but also analyzestheir regional and ethnic differences between the microscopic. In the island range, with a viewto temporal evolution of settlement, from settlement siting, morphology composition, construction systems and other aspects of the settlement group analyzed the spatialrelationships Hainan Han, Li traditional about spatial characteristics; to Han, Li traditional settlement constituted basic building blocks to proceed, from the commonality analysis toexplore personality study, from the basic building blocks of settlements and architectural toexpand the overall space morphology of settlements and architecture. The part3includes chapter6、7and8.This part mainly about ideological and culturalcontext from a constructivist analysis of Hainan traditional architecture and spatialmorphology deep meaning, and placed within the geographical scope of Lingnan comparativeanalysis, and then analyzes its own typical characteristics and regional position. On this basis, from the traditional settlement morphology and the continued development of architecturalspace and reference point for the development of a large number of traditional settlementscontemporary needs, drawing on the heritage and traditional architecture and spatialmorphology, and based on the proposed protection of traditional settlements covering theisland and updating strategies and approaches.
