Spatial Succession Of Old And New Settlements In Traditional Villages Based On Space Syntax

The contradiction between development and protection of traditional villages is a typical problem,which is mainly reflected in the form and function of new and old settlement space.The collage phenomenon is caused by the difference between key elements of settlement space.The phenomenon consists of "simple collage" with a lower reasonable degree of difference and "organic collage" with a higher reasonable degree.This article explores the succession of settlement space in traditional village from the past to the present,taking Luci village in Jingning County,Zhejiang Province as example,of which architectural styles in old and new settlement space are obviously different.Using space syntax as a research method,the structural center and functional center at each period of the village were compared based on the degree of choice,and the differences between the old and new Spaces were quantitatively analyzed with the parameters of intelligibility.Through qualitative analysis,it is found that the collage phenomenon of the old and new settlement space in Luci Village is mainly manifested in two aspects: the building and its external space.And the collage phenomenon of the old and new space in the village is "simple collage".Through quantitative analysis,it is found that the difference between old space and new space fluctuates in the process of succession,and based on this,it is found that "simple collage" occurred in the 1990 s.Combined with the analysis of the two aspects,it is found that the emergence of "simple collage" phenomenon is related to the unreasonable spatial differences’ appearance during the space succession progress.However,the reasonable degree of collage as a succession mode is mainly related to the amplitude of variation of the difference compared with the previous period.It is also found that the stability period of the structure center of the village is 10 years.Different from the structural center,the village has the coexistence of multiple functional centers.In the succession process of nearly 50 years,the relationship of position between structure and function center in Luci Village is mainly separated,with a few case of coincidence and tangency,and the degree of coincidence fluctuates in each period.Based on the results of the above collage phenomenon and center difference,it is further found that the separation of village center and the unreasonable difference of old and new settlement space occur simultaneously;and to some extent,the coincidence degree of the two kinds of village centers can reflect the reasonable degree and the amplitude of variation of the difference between old and new space.It is proved that the village center has a guiding significance for the generation of new space.Finally,analyze the planning scheme of the Luci village,which has a high degree of rationality.The findings can be used as the basis of spatial planning for the protection and development of traditional villages.
