| Taking philosophy as a starting point, this dissertation explores the essence and its significance of Liu Dehai’s thoughts on pipa art from the three perspectives-Liu’s views on emotion ontology, the veer of Liu’s musical language, and Liu’s artistic concept with philosophical reflection.This dissertation consists of three chapters. The first one is The Emotion Ontology in Liu’s Pipa Art, which illustrates the relationship between the philosophical concept of emotion ontology and the pipa art of Liu Dehai, followed by detailed discussion on emotion ontology in his pipa art through his works in both modern and traditional styles. The second chapter, The Importance of Expressing Emotion by Musical Language, talks about the unity of techniques and emotion as well as the lean individual technique, emphasizing the significance and its characteristics of the technical language in Liu’s artistic creation. This chapter further substantiates the emotion ontology in his music. The third and last chapter is Liu’s Artistic Concept with Philosophical Reflection. This one discusses the philosophical impact on Liu’s pipa art by investigating Dialectical View and Golden Triangle Theory, both of which are among the most representative ideas in Liu’s artistic thoughts. In the conclusion, the writer boils the development of Liu’s pipa art down to emotion ontology upon abovementioned research. Meanwhile, the question on how to inherit and develop art has been raised.With demonstration on particular topics and aesthetic analysis, this dissertation attempts to explore the influence of philosophy on Liu’s pipa art as well as the features and value of his music in order to perfect the research on the pipa art of Liu Dehai and to play an active role on the inheritance and development of pipa art. |
