Abstract Tohtahu’s song is a narrative folksong that sets singing, lyric and narrative as a whole. It is not only the masterpiece of Khorchin folksongs but also it has an important position in the Mongolian modern literary history. The article based on the method and theory of historical science, cultural anthro-pology, folklore, technical means of field-base investigation, statistics, com-parative method and puts the song in the society, history, culture been written and sung intends to track back the historical origins, study the classic para-graphs and historical and cultural connotation of the folk customs. At the same time, the article researches its functions on the society, literature, art and place names culture.In the preface, it accounts the reasons of topics, research methods, pur-pose, significance and introduces general situation of its research. In the general situation of its research, it introduces the collection and arranging of Tohtahu’s song, Tohtahu’s autobiography and uprising. Though the activities of collec-tions and arranging of Tohtahu’s song are very active but the raw data up to the standard of professional research of folk literature is seldom. Sum up, the his-torical, cultural and composite research does not conduct. Research is not deep enough.The first chapter sets out the historical origins, thinking, the author and the time that been written and sung of Tohtahu’s song. Tohtahu’s uprising is the historical origins of Tohtahu’s song. Tohtahu’s uprising is an armed upris-ing that against oppression and protecting the homeland. Tohtahu’s song writ-ten based on the uprising contains the multilayer thinking such as singing the na-tional spirit, love the motherland, pursuit of freedom and democracy, focus on unity in its written process. Tohtahu’s song germinated in autumn of1908and formed before June,1915. The author of this song is a member of Tohtahu’s uprising. Rich of the content of this song is relation to many people.The second chapter mainly expounds the historical and cultural connotations of overture, classical excerpts and the end of the Tohtahu’s song. Overture con-tains many historical and cultural elements. Tohtahu’s behavior combines with the history of Tang Taizong campaigned Gao Ge li, Feng Shui legend of Tag cit-y, legend of origins of Shaman onggud,descriptions of Huuren uliger Xue Ren gui recaptures East Liao and makes up the history and culture of overture. The awareness of advocating dragon, five, imperial family, earth and heroes of Mon-golians reflected in it. Classical excerpts of Tohtahu’s song were changed due to the influence of social and age. The name of Yamen army of Qing dynasty sung by many kinds. Tohtahu went to Mongol after the uprising is the historical truth. The awareness of advocating north of Mongolians is the historical and cultural source of the end of the Tohtahu’s song. The society and age influenced the classical excerpts of the Tohtahu’s song been written and sung.The third chapter analyzes the historical and cultural connotations of the classical folklores of Tohtahu’s song such as Tohtahu’s name, glorification of Sulun mountain, heroes wearing Buddha, cutting off and number the ears. Toh-tahu’s names such as lord Tao, Taiji Tohtahu, Tag Tohtahu,hero Tohtahu are from the awareness of advocating imperial family and heroes. Advocating mountains and singing the glorification of mountain are relation to the historical truth of Tohtahu’s rest and fighting on the Sulun mountain and this makes up the glorification of Sulun mountain of Tohtahu’s song. Worshiping Buddha and wearing Buddha of Tohtahu and his heroes are the historical truth. The aware-ness of soul and blessings existing in the ears are the cultural roots of the folk-lore of cutting off and number the ears.The fourth chapter reveales the influence of Tohtahu’s song on society, lit-erature, art, autobiography and place names culture. The song became the call of the times and played an active role on the Tohtahu’s name penetration in the place name. Tohtahu’s song also played an important role on Gorlus folksongs and the kinds of Tohtahu to be the national intangible cultural heritage.This article expounds the social, historical and cultural value of Tohtahu’s song by systematic studying the basic problems, historical and cultural phenom-enon and influence of this song.
