Research On American Factor In Sino-Korea Relations’ Vicissitude

As we all know, Korea-US relations has always been the basis of South Korea’s foreign policy, especially during the Cold War, United States aided to South Korea for the purpose of its strategic objective, and then South Korea just had to rely on American’s assistance to achieve its regime’s re-contraction successfully. Taking the actual situation into account, South Korea adopted the diplomatic strategy of following U.S. one-side on political and economic, and cooperated with U.S. policy in East Asia actively. Thus, South Korea was completely cut off with China on politics, economy and military, and so on.However, according to the realist theory of international politics, national interests determine a country’s diplomatic behavior,and there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies among countries. After the Cold War, with the easing of the international situation, Korean Peninsula’s strategic position in U.S. diplomatic strategy was relative decline, and the contradictions between South Korea and U.S.emergence gradually. With South Korea getting more and more powerful, there are more and more contradictions and differences on competition for strategic dominance in the Korean Peninsula and economic competition. In contrast, South Korea begins to realize the importance of contact with China due to the common goals and economic interests in solving the problem of North Korean nuclear issue with China. Thus, with the Korea-US conflict gradually revealed, the necessity of contracting with China is important for South Korea.In this paper, the development relations between South Korea and China was divided into three stages under the premise of U.S.plays an important influence on the relations between South Korea and China: the isolation period,the contract period and the development period. Analysis that U.S. how to influence the relationship between South Korea and China by reviewing history by reviewing50years development process of the relations between South Korea and China comprehensive and systematic, and reveals its future trends. This paper divided into introduction, text and conclusion.In the body of this test, the development process of relationship between South Korea and China was divided into three parts. In the first part, mainly discusses the relationship between South Korea and China under the bipolar confrontation of the Cold War. And it made South Korea aware of danger, while Sino-US reconciliation and America interrupt political and economic Assistance to South Korea aggravated South Korea’s trepidation. In the background of this situation, South Korea had to carry out Northern diplomacy, and try to contract with Socialist countries for its own economic development and military security. The unofficial contacts and indirect trade was the main contact method between South Korea and China.In the third part, mainly discusses the relationship between South Korea and China during the period of after the end of the Cold War. During this period, there were more and more conflicts and differences between Korea-US relations, such as competition for strategic dominance and economic disputes. Contrast, complementary economic environment made both countries have Benefited in cooperation for South Korea and China.The last one part is conclusion. This part generalize all of the paper’s Views, and conclude that with the South Korea-China relation’s deepening and development, the importance of Korea-China relation to South Korean’s diplomatic strategy will as well as Korea-US relations, even beyond it.
