In people’s impression, modern society contrasts significantly with primitive society.Modern society is considered to be progressive, civilized and rational, while primitivesociety is uncultured, savage and impulsive. However, we regret to found that though wehad entered modern society in reality, we do not get rid of the threat of conflict, violenceand confusion. Attack and force are not only results of wars or crimes in society, but alsoexist in people’s domesticity in a more usual form.Domestic violence can cause serious harm to individuals and families, and can alsobring potential harm to the society. Domestic violence causes enormous physical andpsychological devastation to the victims of abuse, also damage their domestic economy andaffect the emotional stability among family members. Furthermore, domestic violence canaffect cognition, emotion and behavior of family members. As a result, their efficiency ofwork and social activities would be reduced, accidents would increase and finally otherpeople and the whole society would lose a lot. Based on this, it is very necessary to payattention to domestic violence. This paper mainly focuses on the impact of domestic violence on socialization ofchildren in Mongolia. Recent years, the international community concerned more aboutviolence in the backward countries and regions. While domestic violence in remote areas isalso started to be concerned in Mongolia at the same time. According to study, in Mongolia, one in three families has domestic violence in varying degree, which takes nearly half of thetotal number of violent acts. Victims of domestic violence in these cases are mainly womenand children, who are often abused by their husbands, stepfathers or lovers.80%of femalemurderers chose to kill the perpetrators who abused them because they could not suffer long-time oppression and destruction both mental and physical any more. According to statistics, there were nearly2000families suffered domestic violence in Mongolia in2013. The numberof people could be tens of thousands if took the children and old people in the families whosuffered domestic violence into consideration. There are two main features of domestic violence in Mongolia, one is that80%arewomen among the victims of domestic violence, and another is that domestic violence occursmainly in remote areas, among poorly educated populations. The causes of domestic violence in Mongolia are intricate, but the background that Mongolia has experienced macro socialchange can not be ignored. The development of Mongolia society is along with economicreform and social transformation, which makes it harder to solve problems related to familyrelations. During the period of social transformation, factors such as unemployment, poverty, reduction in household income and changes in family structure etc increase the difficulty forfamilies to solve their problems on their own. In addition, alcohol abuse in Mongolian mensignificantly increased during that period, family dispute and domestic violence caused byalcohol abuse were also increased. When focusing on the trends of socialization of minor children, we can see that familyenvironment has potential impacts on minor children psychologically and ideologically.Parents’ temperaments and living goals and trusts between themselves as well as parents’intercourse and relationship with their children and other people these all have importantinfluence to children. Parents’ behaviors are the mock objects of their children, which wouldnot only affect children’s character, but also have a continuing impact in all their children’slives. When compared with adult victims, minor children who are in the grown stage andexperiencing socializing suffer more physical and psychological harm caused by domesticviolence. In normal traditional Mongolian family, Mongolian children can obtain ability andhabitus which can adapt the national life through a kind of social education combined withethnic traditional culture. This progress laid an important foundation for their adult life. Ifchildren suffered regular domestic violence in the stage of socialization, their normalsocialization process would be hindered, their growth would be physical, mental and spiritualinfluenced and then it would lead to psychological and behavioral deviations. These factorscan be obstacles for their following socialization process. In order to have a further understanding of the impact of domestic violence onsocialization of children so as to improve the relevant laws and safeguards for protection ofchildren suffering domestic violence, this paper focuses on children in Mongolia who sufferdomestic violence, try to discuss the impact of domestic violence on socialization of childrenby taking Ulaanbaatar as an example. To explore this issue, quantitative research andqualitative research were used focusing on150children who suffered domestic violence. Theresearch focused on children who suffered domestic violence, concerning their livingactuality and their performance in daily learning and everyday life. Besides, the research alsocompares these children with children growing up in normal families, in order to find thedifferences and characteristic in physical, mental and spiritual. On this basis, we can analysisthe children who grew up with domestic violence about their views of future, life and society, so that we can further discuss the negative impact of domestic violence on healthydevelopment of children, socialization and the establishment of a correct outlook on life.Domestic violence truly has many negative impacts on minor children’s physical and mentalhealth, especially on their socialization process. These negative impacts would lead tochildren’s bad behaviors including weak environmental adaptability, substantialpsychological fluctuations, often feeling of fear, weak comprehension, mental instability, poor academic performance, cruel character, lack of discipline and etc.In previous studies, the issues of domestic violence and children’s socialization weremainly explained by using psychological theories and sociological theories. In order to have abetter study of the impacts of domestic violence on socialization of children, the followingtheories are based, including psychoanalytic theory, epistemology, the behavior of socialepistemology, animal behavior theory and psychology theory. Other theories such as socialexchange theory, systems theory, resource theory, theory of social conflict, socialcommunication theory, feminist theory and social learning theory were also taken intoconsideration in order to draw a rationalized explaination of the origin of domestic violenceand the psychological mechanisms of perpetrators. This paper also means to reduce the harm caused by domestic violence to other familymembers. By researching of laws against domestic violence and the implementation of laws, according to studies, some suggestions are raised. Perpetrators should be disciplined andeducated in a more severe and exhaustive way. Victims should be helped opportunely, especially children who suffering domestic violence.
