The city of Dalian is not only a renowned coastal city located in the south part of Liaodong Peninsula, a crowded zone of hot springs, is an ideal place for developing hot spring resources. But for a long time there has been lack of proper planning, management and integration of the hot spring resources, which has lead to a lack of uniqueness, cultural connotation as well as sustainability in the production and development. The result is a great extent of damage and wasting of the hot spring resources. Therefore the thesis conducted an empirical study to investigate the development status and development potential of hot spring resorts in Dalian, exploring the innovation model of the integrative development of Dalian hot springs. The paper aims at enhancing the development of hot spring tourism, optimizing industrial structure, increasing tourism consumption and improving the economy and the living standard of Dalian through the classification of Dalian hot spring tourism market and products, an innovative tourism market and the expansion of the market chain. The study also enhances the sustainable development of ecology and the environment of hot spring tourism industry by establishing a circular economy development model and a sustainable developing strategy of hot spring tourism. The paper summarizes the research status of hot spring tourism both home and abroad and relevant theoretical framework concludes the experience and insufficiency of the study of hot spring tourism through a comparison between studies made in this field, and states relevant theoretical knowledge of hot spring tourism study. The classification and integrative analysis of the features of Dalian hot spring tourism resources are realized though an overview of the research status of home and abroad. The paper also studies the natural and social environment of Dalian hot spring tourism and considers the current situation of hot spring resources as well as the influencing factors of integrative development. Quantitative methods including Delphi Method and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are combined with qualitative approaches including empirical evaluation and questionnaire survey to establish a systematic evaluation model of developing potential of hot spring, assessing the developing potential, regionalizing the resources into high, medium and low potential areas. With a combination of the basis of spatial integration, space dividing principles and the essential attributes of Dalian hot spring tourism, the resources are divided into spots, regions, belts, groups and nets. The spatial structure is analyzed applying the Spot-gallery-base theory of landscape structure, forming a structure of one net, two belts, three groups and ten regions. With the basis of spatial structure and the background of resources and combining the analysis of the current hot spring tourism market, transportation and products of Dalian city, a unique eight-category development model is formed, building a trademark for Dalian hot spring tourism. A sustainable developing strategy is raised on the basis of the practical situation of Dalian hot spring tourism. According to the theory of circular economy, a circular economy development model is established through microscopic (enterprises), mesoscopic (resources) and macroscopic (industrial network) views, realizing the proper and orderly development of hot spring resources, building the industrial network and finally achieving the sustainable integrative development of Dalian hot spring tourism.
