The social development of ancient Dalian changed dramatically because the contest of this area between the northern nationalities and the central government. Also the development of the cities in Dalian area reached a series of peaks and troughs, generally speaking the cities development of this area is low-level in the mass before 20th, century. In the end of 19th, Imperialist powers enter this place, and Dalian has been under colonial rule for about forty years. And there has been great advances in city development which was based on a different spatial structure comparing to the previous'. From a new angle of view in the human geography, this paper seeks to establish an analytical frame of the evolvement of city spatial structure based on politics, the economy, and the vicissitude of correlative systems by studying the relation between vicissitude of Dalian and the changing of city spatial structure.By analyzing many historical files related and using the theory of history, sociology, geography, statistics, this paper investigates the social vicissitude of Dalian before 1945. Based on this, the relations between the vicissitude of Dalian society and the changes of the city's spatial structure, space continuation, functional layout, and correlative spatial element are discussed.This paper is divided into five parts. The first chapter defines the main concepts used latterly, introduces the progress in this area. The following three chapters comprehensively analyze the relationship between the city spatial structure and social vicissitude of this city according to the time sequences. In the last chapter, the final conclusion is made by analyzing the influences of the geopolitics, economy and the immigrant.
