Confucianism In French Period And Scholar Of South Vietnam

South Vietnam is the last territory of Vietnam.It has characteristics of their geographical location and cultural background.It also spreads of Confucianism thought to the final region of Vietnam.Life of Confucian scholar class here is from Hanoi,Hue or Chinese people that they migrated to south of Vietnam.They live and contact with the local People here;On the one hand,they bring their customs and ethical codes to the local people,(especially Confucianism),on the other hand the people here been simple,innocent and easy infected by the character of them.Thereby,it has gradually formed to the Confucian scholar class of the working people.When the southern Vietnam has colonial aggression by French,Confucian scholar and farmers become the main force of resistance.In the background of Vietnam's history,there are many phenomenon that it is difference from orthodox Confucianism,so event has occurred.Scholars worshiped loyalty,filial piety of Confucianism.There are a lot different from the original standard of Confucianism.The author is very interested and choice the thesis "Confucianism in French period and scholar of southern Vietnam "as research subject.Through investigate the history,culture,literature,etc of French period to reveal the influence of Confucianism with literati in southern Vietnam.the life's environment of scholars at that time,personal background and creative works have extrude some Confucianism thought difference from Chinese native,therefore writer regards important point as the main content in this thesis.There are five chapters in this thesis.The first chapter talks about the living environment of southern Vietnam literati before the French;this chapter will first introduce the important position and characteristic of the south in Vietnam.Secondly is the introduction to the Nguyen dynasty that they have chosen Confucianism as policy in the ruling thought.Followed by the introduction of the southern literati has influence to places and characters,such as:the first Provincial Examination School(Gia Dinh School)of southern Vietnam,that scholars must pass to enter into the officialdom;Binh Duong and Bach Mai poetry club are two literary field of southern scholar in communicating literature before French;First famous teacher in the south is as Vu Truong Toan and three his students in Gia Dinh Tam Gia poetry.Through the introduction and analysis of the character's life and work,such as:there are some Gia Dinh Tam Gia poetry?Hieu Trung Hoai Co Vinh?of Vu Truong Toan,it can reflect the thought of Confucianism how to affect the later southern literati.The Second Chapter:differentiated phenomenon of Confucianism class;The south is a occupied place of France that they have invaded Vietnam,so at this place has its special historical background,such as the imperial examination system first have been abolished in the south,at the same time is also the first place of French to proceed cultural policy here.It embodies in several education events and education training system.So under cultural policy of the French invaders,how to differentiate between the southern literati and what happened between them as the main content has mentioned in this chapter.Through analyzing Lien Hoang poem in the 10 "readme "of Ton Tho Tuong and attitude of some literati toward it,the author tries to uncover the differentiation face between the scholars at that time and introduce some the southern literati that they are representative when early France invaded Vietnam such as:Phan Van Tri,Ton Tho tuong,Nguyen Thong.The third chapter:the important policy is to change written language and the elimination of Confucianism(Confucian scholar);this chapter is introduce to The three written language that it applies in Vietnam at the present and to use these three written language in the situation to write the literary creation.Along with Chinese-Vietnamese Art in imperial examination take turns which it was abolished and cancelled in the southern,northern,middle in Vietnam.This reason makes Chinese literature in recessive condition.Though Chu Nom is the language strongly of Vietnam national consciousness,but because of Chu Nom already weaknesses,so in the early 20th century is also slowly weed out.Then Chinese and Chu Nom literature is replaced by the Latin national language literature.The fourth chapter:"new old wine" spread Latin national language in Confucianism thought;In the early 20th century Latin national language literature embodies the advantages of their national language.It began to spread,which its assimilation tool is originally from French invaders,it is the choice to make implement for patriotic spirit by scholar.Some people has Accepted and applied to the literary creation.And the Latin language literature is the development from that point.In the literary world already extrude two literary group that is has tendency of creation;a specialized group translates some books with Confucianism thought and Chinese patriotic hero novels to propagate the way of love one's country;Another group is specially compiled some Vietnamese national historic hero to remind people,promote patriotism and national spirit to realize the country's history.Although is two creative tendency,but its purpose is also called for patriotic spirit and defend one's country,etc.The fifth chapter:new standard of Confucianism in French period;this chapter is divided into two parts.The first part,through the important literary creation is for patriotism as the theme,trying to embody the Vietnam scholar in the standard of concept to change such as "loyalty" and"filial piety","successes" and "lost"(which is different form of "righteousness),"life" and"death".The second part,this paper introduces two scholars that they have more contribute with literature of south Vietnam,they are:Nguyen Dinh chieu and Truong Vinh Ky.Works of Nguyen Dinh Chieu resists to French what excite people's mind,and he agreed to work in the culture filed with enemy.At that time is considered that he betrays one's country.He recognized the advantages of the Latin language text,so for Vietnam's Latin national language,Latin national language literature and Latin national language newspaper have develop and make an indispensable contribution.In the 21st century,the concept of Vietnamese Academic work should task and hold different view which it completely opposites.The author from his literary career comes to see,shows that he is loyal and devoted to the country,but at that time his work has a bit anomaly.Although two people(Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Truong Vinh Ky)holds different from attitude with French invaders things,but Chu Nom literature and Latin national language literature in Vietnam,both of them have a great contribution.Through the analysis of the life and creative works of two scholars indicate that Vietnamese people at that time with different embodiment from "loyalty".
