Shi-Yi Lv (1784-1855), surnamed Xi Cun and born in Kinmen County, Fujian Province, is a celebrity, calligrapher, specialist of epigraphy and ancient Chinese expert with relative power and influence in south of Fujian Province and Taiwan area of late Qing dynasty. This paper intends to make a comprehensive description Shi-Yi Lv's artistic achievements through document analysis, iconography, etc., and detailed carding and analysis on his lifetime, calligraphy practice, epigraphy, philology, ancient scripts research, annals compilation contributions and influences on cross-Strait cultural exchange, to give objective and clear assessments on Shi-Yi Lv's achievements. This paper has six chapters, of which, Chapter 1 is a brief overview on Shi-Yi Lv's clans and lifetime, which start from the author and Shi-Yi Lv's joint clans, namely the Lv Family Kinmen Xi Cun Shi-Yi Lv's parents, including analysis on Shi-Yi Lv's lifetime major academic activities from schooling and degree obtaining, teaching in academy, expedition to Taiwan and move to Xiamen. Chapter 2 is the analysis on Shi-Yi Lv's apprentice and social intercourse, and from this we can find that Shi-Yi Lv is earnest to learn, has outstanding achievement in the creation and cultivation of his profound learning, and forms profound mentorship with other scholars in Fujian Province through calligraphy and epigraphy communications. Shi-Yi Lv's teachers mainly are Kai Zhou, Shu-Ran Gao and Shang-Xian Guo, while his friendship is developed through relations with Shu-Hai Lin, Bi-Hui Lin and his brother Bi-Rui Lin, and the Lin Family in Banqiao Bridge. Chapter3 is the discussion on Shi-Yi Lv's major calligraphy achievements. In the context of collecting, arranging and supplementing Shi-Yi Lv's calligraphy works, this paper has analyzed his unique styles in Clerical script, Seal script, Semi-cursive script, and combined with relevant contents in his masterpieces to analyze Shi-Yi Lv's calligraphy theories and aesthetic origins. Chapter 4 is the study on Shi-Yi Lv's epigraphy work pieces, achievements and aesthetic origins, as well as his philology works and contributions on local annals compilation. Chapter 5 is the arrangement and research on Shi-Yi Lv's literatures besides calligraphy and epigraphy, namely ancient scripts and notes. This paper also has made analysis on Shi-Yi Lv's writing features on ancient scripts through his representative work pieces The Collectanea of Homeland and The Collectanea of Notes through the following three aspects. This paper firstly makes emphasis on the ancient customs and features of his master works, The Collectanea of Homeland, The Collectanea of Notes, and then analyzes the implications and styles related to his works by indicating although Shi-Yi Lv has sharp observations on current affairs, discourse on politics and governmental affairs are merely presented in his works. Chapter 6 is the presentation for Shi-Yi Lv's calligraphy and epigraphy achievements influence on Taiwan. As a typical scholar in Qing dynasty, Shi-Yi Lv also reflects the features of cultural exchange in Fujian and Taiwan areas, and Taiwan culture development in the middle and late Qing dynasty also can not be separated from such floating scholars'contributions. Finally, on the basis of collecting former literatures, visiting museums, and acquiring Shi-Yi Lv's work pieces in various regions by shooting, this paper has sorted out the Shi-Yi Lv's Chronology and Shi-Yi Lv's Works of Calligraphy Catalog for future researches'references.
