The Western portraits in Qing Dynasty are an important product of the political,economic and cultural exchanges between China and the Western countries from the 18th to the 20th centuries,including portraits painted with several important ways,such as glass painting,oil painting,gouache and watercolor.Regardless of the Western painters who came to the southern port of commerce,entered the court Western missionary painters,or their students-Chinese native Western painters,they continued for more than a century on the creation of the Western portraits.It is also the earliest appearance of the batch of Western portraits and their Western portraits in the Chinese painting history.This paper combs through the existing Qing Dynasty Western portraits and related literature systematically to use the communication analysis of how Chinese and Western economic and cultural exchanges to lead the exchange of Chinese and Western culture and art.The historical role of the art sponsorship of Chinese and Western businessmen,diplomats,travelers,seafarers portraits in China to rise and develop Western portraits in the southern coast of China.This paper makes use of the research methods of style,imageology and philology to clarify the development pattern and context of the western portraits of the South Transit port and the northern court,and systematically studies the artistic style and development characteristics of the Western portraits in the Qing Dynasty.Demonstrating the influence of the exchange of Chinese and Western art on the evolution of the artistic style of Western portraits in Qing Dynasty.To make research on the identification and dating of the Western portraits of the Qing Dynasty,including the subject matter of the works,the expression style,the creation time and the author's research and analysis.This article is intended to use these innovative research results to reveal the significance of the Western portraits in the history of Chinese oil painting and the construction of Chinese art history,to fill the gaps in the study of Chinese art history,to construct a special history of Chinese oil painting,to achieve the purpose of promoting the construction of fine arts from theory and academia.And to make a unique theoretical contribution to the communication between Chinese and Western arts.
