Ideology Study Of Yin-yang And Five Elements Thoery In Lao Zi

Both the East and the West have a classic interpretation of the tradition in which different times tend to have new ideas with different people's new discoveries.In the West,interpreting the Bible is a typical example of this.While in the East there are interpretations of classics:Tao Te Ching,"The Four Books",etc.The specialized study in Tao Te Ching is "Taoism",which focus on the origin of Laozi's thought and the impact to the future.In the History of Chinese Taoism written by Xiong Tieji,et al.,it is mentioned the inheritance and development of "Heaven","the five elements","dialectics","inaction" and "nature" embodied in Tao Te Ching.Acoording to literatures,such as "Laozi study in Rongcheng",Mr Rao Zonging put forward that there should be a word named "Former Taoism" as the indicator of researching development of intellectual history.It values a lot to character research,ideological connotation and philosophical connotation of "Former Taoism" and "Latter Taoism".Liu Gusheng,the famous expert of Laozi and Zhuangzi studies pointed out that while valuing the explanatory study of Tao Te Ching,can not ignore the study of Tao Te Ching itself.This paper mainly researches "inherit the past" of Tao Te Ching,especially inheritance,development of Yin-yang and Five-element thoughts,also the influence,providing for far-sighted personage's reference.This paper uses four methods to research:philological method,textual analysis,hermeneutic,communication and comparative study.The main content of paper includes the origin of Tao Te Ching's Yin-yang and Five-element,the relation of Tao Te Ching and Yin-yang and Five-element.The paper brings forward that Yin-yang and Five-element lays an important and nuclear philosophical foundation for Tao Te Ching,also an important key to unlock Tao Te Ching,which is of great significance.The paper maintains that Five-elements theory originated in the fore-and-aft culture of Yellow Emperor Period,developed in the Yao,Shun,Yu,Xia and Shang dynasties,shaped up in the end of Shang dynasty,represented by Hong Fan.In Zhou dynasty,Five-elements theory represented by Book of Documents confluenced with Yin-yang thought represented by The Book of Changes,mainly reflected in "Zuo Zhuan" and "Guo Yu".The maturity of Yin-yang and Five-element expressed in Tao Te Ching,also the times where Confucius deleted poem,created rites and music.As of Spring and Autumn period,Yin-yang and Five-element developed to be the essential tradition and Chinese classical academic for thousand years,which has a great influence on China's philosophy,historiography,medical science,mathematics and music.However,Zou Hui developed and innovated Five-elements theory,making "the Yin-yang School" could be specific,named "Yin-yang".In fact,systematic literature,such as Yue Ling(including Liu's Commentaries of History,Huai Nan Zi,etc.).Along with various schools,ancient philosophers used "Taoism",which was a common academic term in the Yellow Emperor Period as a center to develop in all directions.Taoist school advocated"morality",named "Taoism";Confucian school advocated "benevolence,righteousness,rites and music",named "Confucianism";Legal school originated in Taoism,named "Legalism";Medical school limked to Yin-yang and Five-element,named "Medicine".In a word,Taoist school reserved much primitive culture.Taoists regard Taoism as belief,developing in the form of religion till now.Five-element Theory focuses on abstracting and summarizing the material,which influences keeping fit and cultivation of Tao Te Ching.Whereas,Yin-yang theory concerns speculation of profound theory,promoting Tao Te Ching a lot.The Book of Changes is the direct origin of Tao Te Ching.However,the relation of "Taoism" and "Reputation" in Tao Te Ching can be compared to the relation of "Yin" and "Yang",both in a state of confused Taoism and Reputation.In Tao Te Ching,ethics,virtues and vices,epistemology and politics are in a state of balance of yin and yang,difference,and distinction.Structually,this paper unfolds according to this logical relationship.The First Chapter is introduction,introducing the general case of topic;The second Chapter introduces Yin-yang theory through the relation of Tao Te Ching and The Book of Changes.The third Chapter states the process of Five-element Theory's start,evolution and molding in Tao Te Ching,and mentions the relation of Five-element Theory and Outlook of healthcare.The fourth Chapter states Taoism and its influence on epistemology and politics in terms of Yin-yang theory.So we think that the research has great meaning both in theory and reality.
