In the ancient times when transportation was inconvenient and information was blocked, letter was one of the major forms for scholars to greet relatives and friends, obtain target information and conduct academic exchanges. In recent years, the large amount of information preserved through the letters has been highly valued by the academic community and has become an important material for academic research.Mr.Tian Jiaying is knowledgeable,well-versed in literature and history, and has a good taste of art.His study Xiao Mang Cang Cang Zhai(?????)collected Qing scholars'letters, which are rich and carefully selected,is an important way for us to understand the daily life of Qing scholars. This article will take these letters as research objects, dedicated to the excavation of calligraphy historical materials, the analysis of calligraphy concepts and the evaluation of artistic value.Scholars Kept in touch by writing, and most talked about academic topics. In letters, they exchanged their research experience, talked about the difficulties of studying, encouraged and persuaded each other, and their emotions were sincere and moving. It is the normal life of scholars to practice calligraphy and painting freely after studying. They use the letters as a medium to discuss calligraphy and painting skills with their friends.Sometimes they also ask for each other's works or show their collection of arts for appreciation. Those who are close to each other will ghostwrite for each other. To sort out these contents, you can roughly outline the features of the calligraphy and painting communication mode among scholars in the Qing Dynasty.Through this batch of letter,we can take a look at the prosperity of the search and research of Epigraphy in the Qing Dynasty.Among scholars of the Qing Dynasty, the characters of stone tablet have become important materials for the academic research due to their long history and authentic appearance. They are generally valued by scholars. The contents of these letters on Epigraphy are not a few.You can get a glimpse of the prosperity of Epigraphy research in the Qing Dynasty, and you can also see the great role of the rise of Epigraphy in the process of people's calligraphy concept change.Exploring the position of calligraphy in the minds of Qing scholars is also one of the problems that this article strives to solve.Affected by the traditional ethics with Confucianism, scholars in the Qing Dynasty mostly regarded themselves as defenders, and valued their lofty mission of “continuing lost teachings for past sages” or “establishing peace for all future generations” very much. Many scholars take a contemptuous attitude toward calligraphy because practicing it can change people's temperament, consume time and shake the heart of defending Taoism. However, there are still people who really like calligraphy, pay attention to the artistic value of calligraphy and give it a fair and reasonable evaluation. Most of them believe that it is not enough to write well just by mastering the technology. They also need to learn more and increase their experience to cultivate their moral character. The influence of profound learning and solid writing skills make these letters generally have a high artistic level, and they are excellent materials to show the daily writing of Qing scholars. All five types of writings are involved in this batch of letters.Among them, those written in regular script are mostly influenced by the style of Guange(???).Scholars in the Qing Dynasty mostly had imperial examination backgrounds and official careers.Learning to write regular scripts that conform to the official aesthetic is a necessary condition. However, there are many who seek breakthroughs within the system and form their own style. The rise of Epigraphy has led to the development of Steleology(??).The primitive and naive seal scripts on the bronzes and stone tablets have subtly changed people's aesthetics. Some scholars choose to use seal script or official script as their daily script for writing letters,Manuscripts and even handling official documents, which had become a unique cultural phenomenon.Among the five Chinese characters fonts, running script and cursive script, with their special method of writing characters and flowing pen atmosphere, form a unique sense of rhythm in the writing process, which is more contagious than the correct and formal fonts. It can also express the romantic feelings of scholars.
