This study intends to probe into the economic and cultural functions of artistic creativity as cultural capital in creative industries, using combined methods from art,economic and social studies.Artistic creativity is a new term coined in the context of creative industries. It stresses the exploitation of art resources, inclusive of not only traditional art production, but also other economic value elevation activities via the integration of art.Artistic creativity has both cultural and economic significance, determined by its function as industrial capital in the creative industries. Cultural capital has both cultural and economic value. Proliferation, movement and accumulation are its general features. Ideology, creativity and shareability are its particular features. As a type of cultural capital, artistic creativity has both value creation function and culture production and transmission function.Artistic creativity becomes cultural capital under the social context of media technology development, emergence of symbolic consumption and the improvement of intellectual property rights protection system. It is a historical convergence of social economic pattern, dominant capital form and evolution of art production. The movement of artistic creativity in creative industries has two aspects. One is value generation and proliferation in the process of production, distribution and consumption. The other is culture transmission in the process of meaning generation,flowing and negotiation. The coupling and corelated two routes therefore constitute the deep structure of cultural economy.The role artistic creativity plays in economic system is to optimize industrial structure and promote economic growth through the industry correlation effect.Artistic creativity is integrated into the three industries with the help of modern digital information technology and gives birth to artistic agriculture,industrial design and aesthetic experience economy. Value chain, value network and value galaxy are the three basic models of production organization.The role artistic creativity plays in culture transmission is art production and communication. Carried by products, it contributes to the aestheticization of everyday life through creative designing, industrial integration and value generation channel diversification. By converting everyday life into classrooms for aesthetic education,arts criticism and moulding of taste groups from both mass and focus media, and taste cultivation and role model from the Neo-Cultural agents, artistic creativity thus plays a prominent part in the construction of social aesthetic tastes.
