A Study Of Fujianese Writers And Travel Notes In The Late Ming Dynasty

The Late Ming Dynasty is the most flourishing period in the travel history of China which plays a key role as a link between the past and the future.Especially after Chiawan period,the subjective and objective conditions in the social environment had gradually been formed.People in late Ming Dynasty not only enjoyed the travel in mountains and waters,but also had outstanding pursuit on the ideas,methods,mates,views of travelling even the overseas travels.The atmosphere of travel had reached the unprecedented height of prosperity.Fuchien has always been the brilliant birthplace of Chinese literature.The Min School in late Ming Dynasty is one of the significant schools in the literature field.The trend of travels literature appeared at that time.Both the number of works and the artistic expressions expressed a grand vision,providing important materials and reference for exploring the travel activities and the creation of travel notes in late Ming Dynasty.So far,many research findings have been based on the aspect of literary aesthetics and appreciation.This study aims on the travel activities and notes of the literati in late Ming Dynasty within the range of Fuchien writers.Through specific and subtle proofs,the analyses come as such:1.the social conditions for travelling and the development of travel literature in late Ming Dynasty;2.the northward route and its scenery for Fuchien writers to apply for Spring Officer;3.Fuchien writers’travel routes and notes in late Ming Dynasty;4.overseas travels notes;5.the record of travelling methods in travel notes.With an introduction in the beginning and a conclusion in the end,this thesis is divided into nine chapters.The introduction briefly states the research purpose,range,method and content of this selected subject,presenting the research meaning and approach of this thesis.Chapter One lays the groundwork for the research structure through the social environment of the development of travelling and the creation of travel notes in late Ming Dynasty.It analyzes the forming of travel activities and the reason for vast travel notes,explaining the background for the following parts.Chapter Two explores the northward route and its scenery for Fuchien writers to apply for Spring Officer.Chapter Three displays travel routes and representative tourist attractions in Fuchien.In Chapter Four,the development of literature in Fuchien is analyzed.The Chapters Five and Six discuss the main figures among Fuchien writers,illustrating the travel notes and thoughts of all periods.Chapter Seven is based on some important overseas travel notes of late Ming Dynasty to show the map of overseas travel activities in late Ming Dynasty.Chapter Eight analyzed the literati’s travelling mates,time and views.Chapter Nine concludes the achievements on travelling and travel notes creation of the literati in late Ming Dynasty.Through systematic examination of this thesis,the travel notes of Fuchien writers may be marked on the right position of the long timeline of Chinese landscape literature.
