As a special resource endowment of the port-city, the port has great effects on the growth of city economy. Though the number of port-cities is small, they occupy an important position in the national economy of China. There are 8 coastal port-cities and 6 river port-cities in the top 20 richest cities in China by GDP.'Promoting the city economy with port and achieving common prosperity of port and city' has always been the foundation for most of the port-cities'government making development strategy. However, from the prospective of the whole developing process of Chinese port-cities, the effect of ports on the cities didn't achieve the desired results of the strategy makers due to the shortage of coordination and synchronization during the developing process of port-cities, which restrict the evolution of port-city to a better direction. So, it is urgent to study the law and mechanism of port-cities' synergetic development, especially for those port-cities short of land and coastal resources.In chapter 1, the technology route and research method of this dissertation is decided by reviewing and summarizing many research achievements about the relationship between port and city economy, the evolution of shipping center, the relationship between the increasing of Container ship size and the economic development of port-city and the relationship of space layout evolution between port and city at home and abroad. In chapter 2, through comparing the development of London, Singapore, Hongkong, Shanghai and Shenzhen, the general law of the collaborative development and the disharmony factors of Chinese port-cities are found. In chapter 3, it builds the synergy degree model of port-city system and makes an empirical study based on the historical data of Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other six cities. Then a panel data model is established to study the relationship between the synergy degree of port-city system with city economic development, based on the historical data of the 9 cities from 2003-2012. In chapter 4, the chaos of the international shipping center system evolution is described by establishing the Logistic model of the international shipping center self-organized evolution. In chapter 5, it analyzes the causal relationship between the container ship size and the economic development based on the system dynamics theory by building the causality diagram, the flow chart and the system simulation equations. The empirical research results of Shenzhen show that port city adapt to the increasing of container ship size can significantly promote its economic development. In chapter 6 with considering the land and shoreline resources occupied by the port, it uses the system-dynamic theory and establishes a mathematic model which describes the interactive mechanism of port-city system. And then based on the container port operation process, the goal system of low-carbon & green container port development is put forward. In chapter 7, from actual conditions of port-cities in China and based on the above research results, it puts forward countermeasures and proposals to promote the synergy degree of port-city system.
