The industrial competence is determined by all of enterprises in the industry.Over the past 30 years,changes are taken place in tourism industry in China,and innovation unquestionably,is articularly important for the tourism industry.Accortding to tourism firms,how to acquire compentence advantage by innovation has drawn increasing attention from entrepreneurship researchers,practitioners and policy makers.Furthermore,some information available have been noticed that tourism firm differs from some businesses,which usually targeting at the dissemination of research-based knowledge,such as lack of resources,less on in-house research,rapid changes in ownership,and widespreading 'free rider' etc al.However,few attpemts have been done on tourism innovation in academic innovation research,especially for the 'universal mechanism,of tourism firms.Furthemore,three characteristics of the current researches are also to be acknowledged.First,many studies have stilled relied on explorative and qualitative cases and remained blind to 'contextualization' according to structural and behavioral preconditions for innovations in tourism firms.Second,the spatial bonds to specific destinations,whih may be a platform for the construction of new empirically grounded theory,have been received the attention of the innovation researchers for so long.Unfortunately,little attion has been devoted to the network about geospatial structures in their specific concepts,rather than.And thirdly,the concern on the 'mechanism' about organization learning in-house to tourism firms was also far from enough.Therefore,we aim to provide deep insights into how tourism firms built network capability to improve their innovation performance.And three aspects of this problem have to be addreesed:The first question invovlves the 'contextualization' according to structural and behavioral preconditions for innovations in tourism firms.The second problem is relates to the theory bulding from cases study.We identified the concrete concept of network capability,organizational learning and innovation performance according to tourism firms.Moreover we forward the conceptual model and the research hypothesis accordingly.The third aspect deals with the theory testing.We investigated 395 tourism firms by questionnaires,and with Explorative factor analysis(EFA)and Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),we established and verified meaures.We also applied Structural Equation Modeling(SEM)to testify and modify the conceptual model.The conclusions of this research are as follows:(l)We put forword that 'Tourism is defined as a sectoral system of innovation and production',which identifies the constraints or'contextualization,related to innovation in tourism firms activities.Moreover,we believe that efficient network capability and acquisition learning are to be the result of these 'strong selection'.In addition to profiting from innovation,tourism firm as a service follows the principle that performance not only comes from financial income but also 'pioneer effect'.(2)Apart from Acquisition Learning,i.e.Imitative Learning which well-known,we believe that Experimental Learning is the other basic,important way of organization learning.And both learning have positive,but do have different effects on innovation performance.(3)Network capability has positive effect on tourism firm innovation performance.In details,network capability promotes innovation performance through two distinct ways:first,network eapability can directly enhance innovation performance.Second,organization learning plays meditating roles in the relationship between network capability and innovation performance.Network capability has positive direct effective on acquisition learning,while indirect effect on experimental learning,and acquisition learning promote experimental learning,both learning can directly enhance tourism firm innovation performance.It contributes to the theory in three folds.Firstly,we provide a new perspective of single firm in network to study tourism innovation and enriches the research of this field,and based on the knowledge-based theory,the definition of tourism as a sectoral system of innovation and production is to be the most suitable analytical framework to cope with the activity and changes in tourism,and underlies the basic theoretical developments.Secondly,drawn on extant theoretical research and case study,this research breakthrough the extant research paradigm of tourism firm innovation through exploring three key dimension of network capability,organizational learning and innovation performance.Efficient network capability and both learning are clarified and their measures are developed.This research helps open the'black box' of tourism firm innovation activity and fill the gap of extant research.And thirdly,in contest to the current view about the effect of acquisition learning,which can only form a temporary competitive advantage for manufacture or other business,we believe that according to tourism firms,Acquisition learning is the efficient means and of helping themselves take part in innovation and to adapt to the changing environment.
