Effective teamwork, knowledge coordination, and knowledge creation are recognized as essential sources for team effectiveness and creativity in modern organizations.Nowadays, research on social media as a source of knowledge coordination and communication has been coming into blossom,as organizations are increasingly focused on teamwork for creative solutions to intercept contemporary market challenges. At the same time, literature show that knowledge management processes, which consists of knowledge sharing, integration, creation and application, are important factors affecting team performance. However, minimal effort has been made to elaborate how different uses of social media support and effect knowledge management processes of the team, which in turn might influence team creative performance. To address this gap in literature,a theoretical model based on input-process-output framework is developed in order to understand and clarify the adaption of social media dimensions in teams, with particular focus on their impact on team creative performance through knowledge management in teams. To validate the theoretical model and related hypotheses the data is collected from 361 members of 72 knowledge work teams through a survey method. The partial least square-structural equation modeling technique applied to analyze the data indicated that different uses of social media have positive relationship with transactive memory system.Further, transactive memory system is positively related to absorptive capacity, knowledge creation capability and knowledge application of the team. Results further indicate that despite absorptive capacity has not a significant positive relationship with team creative performance,it positively influence team creative performance through other ways of knowledge creation capability and knowledge application.Furthermore, knowledge creation capability and knowledge application have a significant direct relationship with team creative performance. This study shows that careful investment in each dimension of social media by an organization can enhance meta knowledge of "who knows what" within teams, which positively influences other knowledge management processes. Finally, exploring external knowledge alone is not enough.Instead, organizations must ensure external knowledge is effectively applied to the context of enhancing team creative performance and also utilized to create new knowledge to improve team creative performance.
