Auditorium is an important type of public buildings.Its multiple design goals,strict technical requirements and complex design teams lead to high difficulty of its schematic design.Meanwhile,digital design methods have been developing very rapidly these years,and have very broad potential and possibilities.This research integrates digital design into auditorium schematic design,providing assistance in design generating and acoustic quality,in order to help architects acquire auditorium designs with satisfactory aesthetic values and acoustic quality.First,fundamental researches of auditorium schematic design and digital design are conducted.The requirements,features,current design process and its problems of auditorium schematic design are analyzed.The developing process,existing theories and methods of digital design are investigated.Based on these work,an acoustic-oriented assistance strategy of auditorium schematic design that integrates digital design methods is proposed.Second,three forward design methods of the proposed strategy are specifically explored,including “automatic generation and modification of auditorium designs”,“acoustic evaluation of auditorium designs by simulation”,and “acoustic potential evaluation and modification suggestion of auditorium shapes”.These methods aim to provide architects with real-time architectural and acoustic feedback.New algorithms and mechanisms that are suitable for auditorium schematic design are raised,including “component-based programming method of parametric models”,“improving strategies of acoustic simulation in schematic design”,and “algorithmic mechanism combining parametric model,acoustic simulation and regression spline”.Moreover,software demos are developed based on these principles to realize the design methods.Demonstrations and discussions of the software demos are then conducted.Third,two parts of the backward assistant contents of the proposed strategy are specifically explored,including “auditorium shape design guidelines from the viewpoint of acoustic potential” and “auditorium shape design guidelines from the viewpoint of scattering contribution”.These assistant contents aim to reveal the relationships between acoustic quality and auditorium shape as reference for architects.Methodologies combining Monte Carlo Simulation and correlation analysis are raised.Design guidelines are then acquired based on the methodologies.Moreover,discussions regarding the design guidelines are conducted.Finally,based on the aforementioned design methods,assistant contents,software demos and design guidelines,a process of design generation and acoustic assistance is raised to improve the current process of auditorium schematic design.Relevant discussions are then conducted.This research explores the feasibility and opportunities of integrating digital design into auditorium schematic design.Methods to fulfill design demands are provided and improvements of current design process are raised.Therefore,this research facilitates the application of digital design methods in auditorium schematic design,the improvements of auditorium design quality,and the abundance of digital design methods.
