In recent years, Panama bulk carrier is one kind of popular vessel on among of new ship building orders of global ship building companies. Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding(Group) Limited Company has designed new 76,000 DWT bulk carrier which has completely independent intellectual property right. The engine room automation system of this bulk carrier is designed and studied in this thesis.Based on conclusion and summing-up of the domestic and abroad technology development condition and trend of engine room automation system, the technical performance of the principal dimensions and main engine and generators of 76,000 DWT bulk carrier are analyzed in this thesis. Then, after many times of discussion with ship owner, ship owner's main design requirement of engine room automation system are determined, that laid the foundation for the engine room automation system of this bulk carrier. At the same time, after study on related Class rules which 76,000 DWT bulk carrier is for, the requirements of Class rules are concluded. In addition, the difficulties in design are summarized according to design standard and design experience in this thesis.According to the design requirements concluded as above, main engine remote control system, electric power plant automation system, engine room alarm and monitoring system which are three main systems of engine room automation system of 76,000 DWT bulk carrier are schematic designed. In addition, with my working experience of lead designer for 76,000 DWT bulk carrier project, the technical improvement suggestion are presented to main engine remote control system, electric power plant automation system, engine room alarm and monitoring system of this bulk carrier.
