Design activity has existed in every corner of the human society for a long time throughout the human evolution.It involves almost every aspect of the people's life,including physical requirements,mental requirements,and social requirments.In the present tide of the economic globalization,the comprehensive ties among these three kinds of design requirements are being constantly deepened.Now,for one design product,it always has to meet multiple requirements.In this context,the design enterprises can no longer survive in the intensely competitive international market just relying on the internal resources for the innovative design.Fortunately,the economic globalization can also offer a solution.The rapid process of the economic globalization is largely impeled by the booming Internet.The Internet breaks the barriers of time and space,which makes the designers obtain the access to the design resources distributed in different regions and maintained by the experts in different disciplinary domains.This Internet-based distributed resource environment can provide the various and vast design resources required by the identity design and multi-disciplinary design.In this situation,the traditional enclosed design mode is gradually changed into the open design mode which is based on the distributed resource environment.This paper mainly discussed some theoretical and methodological problems in the functional knowledge integration in the design process based on the distributed resource environment.The research achievements are mainly as follows:First,a functional knowledge integration in the design process based on the distributed resource environment is proposed.In the theoretical system of this paper,the rich resources in the distributed resource environment can be introduced into the design process smoothly,so that,the product design can be well supported.This paper mainly focuses on the step of functional knowledge integration.During this step,the resource units from different disciplinary domains can offer their functional units as knowledge services.These knowledge services are published on the Internet,and the designers can search and ask for them to solve their own design problems.Thus,the designers can accomplish their design task,although they don't have enough necessary professional knowledge.As for the resource units,they can make their contribution to the design industry and get some payment back.Second,the keyword representation for the inputs and outputs of the functional units is deeply developed.The modifying relationship and equivalence relationship are proposed.Based on that,the keywords can be devided into two classes,i.e.modifying keywords and core keywords.For a keyword,it can also have lots of equivalent keywords to demonstrate the variety of natural language.With the new keyword representation,the publishment and retrieval of the functional units will become more accuate and efficient.Third,various approaches for constructing the functional knowledge integration scheme are proposed to support the innovative design.In this paper,the searching method for a single functional unit based on the function of the design product is proposed firstly.Based on that,the functional unit chain generating algorithm is proposed to help the designers generating functional unit chain shaped functional knowledge integration scheme.Furthermore,the functional knowledge integration for the branch chain shaped functional unit set is proposed based on the functional unit chain generating algorithm,so that,more alternatives can be offered to the designers.
