Since the reform and opening-up,the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization has brought about a fundamental change in the man-land relationship in rural China. In the process of rapid transformation of rural economic development, the cultivated land use function of rural households had changed significantly compared to the traditional ways.Rural household is the basic unit of the agricultural production, their change of the survival dependence living on the cultivated land has a direct influence on the land use behavior. The analysis of the reasons for the change of household land use from the angle of household cultivated land use function has important significance for a comprehensive understanding of household land use choice to guide their land use behavior.Meanwhile,it's also propitious for the governments to provide formulate agricultural policies and land use policies.Based on the survey data of 1166 households in three Main Functional Zones of Hubei,China, this paper focused on the analysis of the characteristics of rural households' cultivated land use function and the correlation with the household land use behavior by combining normative analysis and empirical analysis. The main contents of this paper was as follows: 1)Heterogeneity of cultivated land use function in rural household and its spatial differentiation characteristics. We constructed the evaluation index system of cultivated land use functions in rural household to calculate the function value and the advantage coefficient. On this basis, the paper analyses the heterogeneity and spatial distribution characteristics of the cultivated land use function in rural households. In the end, this parts of the research divided the type of rural household from the angle of the difference in the cultivated land use function of rural household.2)The effect of the function of cultivated land use in rural household on their land transfer behavior.Analysis of the basic characteristics of the land transfer market in the investigation areas and using multiple models to test the robustness of the effect of the cultivated land use function in rural household on the land transfer behavior.3)The effect of the function of cultivated land use in rural household on agricultural production behavior.Based on the analysis of the basic conditions of agricultural production in the investigation areas, the paper analysed the effect of cultivated land use function in rural household on their agricultural production behavior and its spatial difference, and used multiple models to test the robustness of the results.4)Optimization of land use behavior in rural household based on the differentiation of cultivated land use functions. The paper used cluster analysis todivide the farmers' land use behavior into 7 strategies and identified the optimization stategy of the land use behavior in different types of households with the principle of random dominance. Then, the research analysed the reasons which restricted the use of land use optimization strategy from the angle of farm household cultivated land use function. On this base, suggestions could be put forward to guide and optimize the land use behavior in rural hosehold.According to the above research content, this study obtained the following conclusions:1)The functional attributes of cultivated land resources in rural households showed obvious individual heterogeneity and spatial differentiation.(1)The Food-Supply function of cultivated land use was the most basic and most advantageous function in rural household in the survey area; The function of Economic Contribution was more important in the rural household of the Key Development Zones and Agricultural Production Zones. The function of Pension &Employment played a more important role in the rural household of the Key Ecological Zone. The cultivated land use function of the Future Disposal in rural household was relatively low in total, but strengthened in the household near the suburb of the city.(2)The differentiation of rural household was prominent in the investigation areas, and the better the economic development conditions, the higher the degree of differentiation of the rural household. The "non-agricultural" type was the main type of rural households in the Key Development Zones. The proportion of "economic type" households in the Agricultural Production Zone was relatively high, while the "self-supporting" family was widely distributed in the Key Ecological Zone.2)The regional difference of the land transfer behavior in rural household was obvious, and the function of cultivated land use in rural household had significant influence on their land transfer behavior.(1)The participation rate to land transfer market in rural households was high, but the regional difference was more obvious. The land rental market in the Key Development Zone had a higher participation rate and the rent of the land transfer;the Agricultural Production Zone had a higher participation rate but a lower rent of the land transfer;and the land rental market in the Key Ecological Zone was underdeveloped.(2)The function of the Economic Contribution and Food Supply had a robust positive effect on the behavior of the land transfer in and negative effect on the bebavior of land transfer out;the effect of the function of the Pension & Employment pension function on the land transfer behavior was not robust, and effect of the function of the Future Diposal on the behavior of land transfer had not through the significant test.Meanwhile, there was obvious regional differences in the effects of cultivated land use function on the land transfer behavior in different Main Function Zones, and the better the condtion of the economic development were, the more obvious the effect of cultivated land use function on the land transfer decisions was.3)The regional difference of the agricultural production behavior in rural household was obvious, and the function of cultivated land use in rural household had significant influence on their agricultural production behavior.(1)The characteristic of the agricultural production didn't appear "non-food" trend, but the degree of land use intensity was relatively low, accompanied with a serious condtion of land abandonment.Meanwhile, the characteristics of the regional differences in agricultural production was obvious. The rural household in Agricultural Production Zone and Key Ecological Zone had a higher partipation rate of the agriculture production, but conservarive in the behavior of agricultural production and operation;the conditon of land abandonment in Key Development Zone was more common, but the selection of agricultural crops in the camping farm households was relatively pluralistic, and their behavior of the agricultural production was more active.(2)The higher of the cultivated land use function of Economic Contribution,Food Supply and Pension & Employment in rural household, the bigger of the propotion in the grain sown area and the land replanting index, and the greater of the input of agricultural production, this conclusion had strong robustness;meanwhile, the effect of the cultivated land use function of the Future Dispol in rural household on their agricultural production behavior was not robust. In addition, there were obvious regional differences in the effects of cultivated land use function on their agriculture production behavior in different Main Function Zones, and the better the condtion of the economic development were, the more obvious the impact of cultivated land use function on their agriculture production behavior was.4)The optimization strategy of land use in different types of households had obvious differences.Meanwhile, the difference of the function of cultivated land use in rural households had significant influence on their choice of land use optimization strategy.(1)"Self-supporting" households should adopt active agricultural production strategies and grow more cash crops. But the higher value of the Economic Contribution Function and the Future Disposal Function restricted the optimal choice of land use strategy.(2)The "economic-type" households should take active agricultural production decisions and choose to raise more grain crops. The restricting factors of the choice in their land use optimization strategies was lower Economic Contribution function value and higherPension& Employment Function value.(3)The households of "non-agricultural" should choose to abandon agricultural production. However, the restricting factors of the land use optimization strategy was the high value of the cultivated land use function of the Economic Contribution, the Food Supply and the Pension &Employment.(4)The houhold of the "survival-type" should choose more conservative agricultural production behavior and choose to raise more grain crops, but the lower value of the function of the Economic Contribution and Pension &Employment restrict the optimal choice of land use strategy.(5)The household type of "value-added" should choose more conservative behavior of agricultural production with more proportion of thecash crops, but the higher value of the Econimie Contribution Funtion and lower value of the Future Diposal Fution restricted the optimal choice of land use strategy.
