The transformation of cultivated land utilization has become a new direction to solve the problem of the disorderly competition of cultivated land deman, the non-agriculturalization of cultivated land and the degradation of cultivated land ecosystem. However, the current research on the transformation of cultivated land use pays more attention to dominant morphological changes and lackes attention to the hidden form of cultivated land. This paper based on the invisible form of cultivated land--multi-functional perspective, combined the external functional change of cultivated land and the synergy analysis of internal functional trade-off to study the transformation and driving mechanism of cultivated land use in Beijing from 2005 to2016,which provide a basis for the sustainable use of cultivated land in Beijing and reference for improving the perspective of China's arable land use transformation research. The results showed:(1)The multi-functional time series of cultivated land in Beijing in 2005-2016showed:both production function and social security function continued to decline, while ecological function and cultural function showed an increasing trend.According to the level of function, the multi-functional changes of cultivated land in Beijing from 2005 to 2016 were divided into three stages,2005-2008,2008-2015 and2015-2016.The spatial change showed: the production capacity and strong value areas gradually reduced and stabilized in the southeast plains;strong ecological values and strong areas occupied the northern and southern regions;the area of social function has gradually reduced and the strong area concentrated on the Northeast;the area with strong cultural functions has gradually expanded and occupied the northern region.(2)The multi-functional arable land experienced the trade-off relationship in2005-2008,which mainly in social security, ecological function and production, cultural function;the trade-off relationship was aggravated in 2008-2015,which mainly in ecological, cultural functions and social security, production functions;the2015-2016 trade-offs and synergies are in three phases.(3)Both of Beijing's arable land realized production and social security functions were mainly oriented to ecological and cultural functions from 2005 to 2016 and the complex trade-off relationship between cultivated land culture, ecological functions and production, social security functions from 2008 to 2015 supported that the cultivated land in Beijing achieved the transformation of the functional level of cultivated land utilization in 2015.At the same time, the strong value and strong value areas of the functions of cultivated land in all districts and counties of Beijing were basically in line with the four functional areas of Beijing.(4)The degree of correlation of the three stages of influence factors was not same, the stage changes indicated that the significant factors affecting the transformation of cultivated land in the transition period of cultivated land from 2008 to 2015 are the proportion of primary industry, per capita fixed assets investment, per capita net income of farmers, per capita food ownership and per capita GDP.
