A Grammatical Study Of The Southern Lahuxi Dialect

This dissertation aims to synchronically make a comprehensive and systematic study on Lahuxi dialect(abbr:Nuanduan Lahu).According to the instructions of reference grammar,the dissertation mainly discusses its phonological system,morphology and systactic system.It consists of ten chapters.Chapter ?.Preface.Several matters are introduced in this chapter,mainly about Lahuxi people on their distribution,social economy,culture and language,A review of the research on Lahu is also mentioned.Furthermore,the designing,meaning and value are discussed.At last,it comes to framework of theory and methodology,source of language material.Chapter ?.Phonological System.Describes the phonological system of Lahuxi speech,the main contents including initials,finals,tones and syllable structure,especially on their constitutions,numbers,characteristic and classification.Chapter ?.Words and Word formation.Phonological words and Grammatical words.Mainly about phonological words and grammatical words in Lahuxi dialect.Word formation and loan words are discussed in this chapter.Word formation are described and analyzed from two aspects,syntax and morphology.It is discussed mainly on the ways that how to form loan words.Chapter ?.Nominal and nominal phrases.Describes the noun,pronoun,determinerclassifier NPs,numeral-classifier NPs and possessive attributes etc.The order of poly-attributes and coordination of nominal components are described.Chapter ?.Verbal phrase.This chapter is a discussion of verbal phrase in Lahuxi dialect.Verb,adjective and deseriptive are mainly introduced,and the object-verb construction,verb-serial construction,a string of verbs are developed.Reference and coordination of predicates come finally.Chapter ?.Simple sentences.This chapter gives a fine description of simple sentences in Lahuxi dialect.First describes the argument structure,then illustrates the adverbial modifiers,and finally comes to the discussion of topicalization and focus expression.Chapter ?.Comples sentences and compound sentences.This part introduces complement clause,attributive clause,subordinate clause and coordinate clause.Chapter ?.Sentence type.Interrogative sentences,imperative sentences and exclamatory sentences are analyzed and the modal particles at the end of sentences are also decribed.Chapter ?.Semantic categories.Summarizes such as negation,aspect,mood,modality,evidentiality,quantity and comparision etc.Chapter ?Conclusion.Explains the basic word order in Lahuxi dialect.
