A Evolutionary Study On The State Verbs With Predicate Objects In Archaic Chinese

The state verbs with predicate objects is an part of the verbs,which can represent the static.The diachronic evolution of the state verbs with predicate objects in ancient Chinese can broaden the research scope of verb-object state verbs.The thesis consists of six chapters altogether:Chapter one is the introduction,which introduces the purpose and significance of the thesis first,then reviews the previous linguistic studies of the state verbs with predicate objects.The next part defines the state verbs with predicate objects in archaic Chinese.The last part introduces the division of history into historical periods,The data and research methods.Chapter two and chapter four are the analysis of the state verbs with predicate objects,which analyzes the features of verbs in the early,the middle and late stage.and divides the research objects into four categories according to the form of verb-object:Class A(with predicative object of state verbs),class B(with nominal object and predicative object of state verbs),D(with predicative object and sentence object of state verbs),C(with nominal object,predicative object and sentence object of state verbs).to explore the related situation of four types of verbs concrete members,including the use of frequency,syntactic function,predicate objects types,the semantic role;at the same time,the dominance of the verbs in the B and C verbs are analyzed.Chapter five discusses the diachronic evolution conditions of the state verbs with predicate objects in three stages of archaic Chinese,including the alleged of degree,reference,factivity,dominant,syntactic function,semantic role,etc.First it describes and summarizes the verbs’the alleged of degree,then describes the reference of the predicate objects,explaining the phenomenon by language economy and cognitive salient.The next part describes the state verbs with predicate objects~’factivity,interpreting the situation according to the verbs’semantic feature.At the time,it explains the core member of the B and C verbs by easy-obviousness,then it analyzes the intransitive verb and transitive verb by the perspective of conceptual dependency structure,analyzing transitive verb with objects by the highlight of the cognitive.Chapter six is the conclusion of the thesis.First it reviews the main work of previous chapters,pointing out innovation and some limitations,then the direction of the further research are illuminated.
