An Investigation Of The Process Of Sinicization Of Bel Canto From The Perspective Of The History Of Chinese Opera

Opera originated from Europe was a form of drama from the music.Bel Canto was developed by the opera.Western opera and Bel Canto has inevitably collided with the Chinese traditional opera and folk singing after being introduced to China,which required “localization” and “sinicization” for Chinese audience.Therefore,it was significant to research on the the development of Chinese opera and the “sinicization” process of Bel Canto in aspects of the interactive relationship between the evolution of Chinese opera and the “sinicization” of Bel Canto.This research was conducted from the following sections.With the evolution of Chinese opera,Bel Canto has been introduced into China as a singing system.In the 1930 s and 1940 s,the Chinese Bel Canto has seen great improvement in teaching body,teaching system and talent training through the hard work of two generations of vocalists,and entered two different cultural regions during the Anti-Japanese War.Afterwards,a serious "un-acclimatization" occurred in Yan'an period,while the overall development was stable in the Kuomintang area,creating the first stir of the Bel Canto.In the 1950 s and 1960 s,the Chinese opera seria and the Bel Canto with the main purpose of performing the opera seria were all developed to certain extent.The development of national operas and folk singing was even more powerful.It presented the unbalanced evolution of opera and the conservative development of singing.Before the Sino-Soviet relations broke down in 1958,professional colleges followed the so-called traditional “Russian Vocal”,but lost the true “Bel Canto”.The Chinese Bel Canto therefore entered into a big slump.During the “Cultural Revolution” the “model opera” had certain characteristics of the opera,and the symphony “model opera” was more representative.In this period,opera creation and performance represented the extremes of artistic politicization.Creative ideas and the performance style became paranoid,making the opera seriously deviate from the normal development of the opera seria and the national opera.Chinese opera saw a period of alienation.The sinicization of Bel Canto therefore entered into a period of distortion under the name of “Foreign Use for Chinese”.With the benign development of the Chinese opera in the 1980 s and 1990 s,various ideological trends and ontological consciousness of Chinese opera increased gradually.The Bel Canto was conceptually geared to international standards with great achievements.The national opera "The Daughter of the Party" was the excellent example of the combination of lyricism,narrative and dramatic properties.New generation of folk vocalists represented by Peng Liyuan had the special performance of the opera,which deepened the Chinese Bel Canto.All in all,both the Bel Canto and the Opera were introduced to China in the context of the “Eastward Expansion of Western Music”.They had the mutual relationship in China,synchronized and promoted,staggered and contradictory.This has formed the unique style.
