Study On The Problems Of Leisure Life In The Han Dynasty

This paper discusses the leisure life in the Han Dynasty from four aspects,such as leisure class,leisure time,leisure activities and leisure concept.The leisure class in the Han Dynasty,including the emperors and royal,nobles,officials,exceedingly wealthy people,some hermits,some of the poor and middle class,shows its distinctive identity through their food,clothing,living and act with huge cost.The existence of the agent class further highlights the wealth,status and honor of the leisure class.Almost all the free people in the Han Dynasty,from the emperor down to the common people can enjoy their leisure time.The longth and the way of the officals' holidy is related with their work,but not with their status.The civilians' leisure time are mostly concentrated in the slack season in farming and festivals.Leisure time life not only for entertainment,will be influenced by customs and public opinion,with the enlightenment and education function.The “game”in the Han Dynasty is the main part of leisure activities.Although the evaluation of the chess is not high,it has been popular and continued to develop.The leisure and funny Jiao-Di appears from the late Warring States period to the Qin Dynasty.Jiao-Di in the Han Dynasty means all kinds of games,which develops to Jiao-Dixi with story.Tou-Hu with fun in the Han Dynasty is a kind of Li,which is not named bye “game”,but it is still included in the game.There are some different ideas on “Dou-Shou” and “Nong-Tian” of Han Zhao emperor.“Shui-Xi”is ignored by scholars.The communication of entertainment and leisure culture become true by the political communication between the Han Dynasty and other states.Some exotic leisure activities are loved by people,which gradually localized.The original leisure and recreational culture activities gradually infiltrated some foreign elements.Wasteful life and Keeping up with the Joneses is opposed,but the dmonition about this usually is ignored.People have formed some views on the leisure activities.There is no relationship between leisure activities and gaining to support oneselves,which is reasonably and degreed by Wang Chong.Leisure is in line with the human's nature,but constant indulgence in leisure activities disturb the normal work and life.So the leisure activities are believed that leisure activity is meaningless,even harmful.Therefore,abstemious leisure life is affirmed.Hunting is the most popular activity for emperors,also known as “You-Tian”and “You-Lie”.Admonition to the emperor's leisure life are from various angles.Leisure activities and the politics are inextricably linked.People without fatigue enjoying leisure activities is a symbol of political stability.Leisure is forbidden in the period of emperor being sick or his mourning.In the year of famine,some of the leisure activities are cancelled,so is prohibition.The leisure activities in foreign exchanges should also be mainly to show the rites of the Han Dynasty.
