Collation And Study Of Naxi Kobha Literatures

Kobah character is one kind of writing systems only used by Naxi Dongba in the southwest of China.It is used for recording classics,writing the scriptures straightly or marking the pronunciation of the Dongba classics.Until now,the number of Kobah classics that has been collated and translated is limited,mainly 12 kinds.If removing the reduplicative classics,there is only 8 kinds left.Among these 8 kinds classics,writing by the pure Kobah characters is only 6 kinds.Until now,the achievement that about Kobah character's collating and translating is only 3 kinds.The instructive theory is lacking.These 3 kinds of research achievements could afford some useful ways for us researching Kobah character,but it is not enough.Selecting the pure and complete Kobah character as its research object,this dissertation systematically advances the principle and method of Kobah character's collating and translating by the first time.The concrete content is as follows.The preface gives an account of the basic research conditions of recently published Kobah classics,sorts out the research achievement of Kobah character's collating and translating and puts out its deficiencies.Then it analyzes the philological and graphic value through collating and translating Kobah classics,summarizes the principle and method of Kobah character's collating and translating.Lastly,it gives out the purpose,method and step of the dissertation.From the first chapter to the sixth chapter,it presents the achievements about the Kobah character's collating and translating.From the first chapter to the fifth chapter,every chapter has its corresponding Kobah classics,such as the collating and translating about the two versions of Ehoi: The Ceremony to Propitiate the Wind Demons of Suicide Soliciting the Help of the God Jingru(Part ?),the collating and translating about the two versions of Ehoi: The Ceremony to Propitiate the Wind Demons of Suicide Soliciting the Help of the God Jingru(Part ?),the collating and translating between The story about the origin of Moxie's divination and The classic of seeking divination,the collating and translating about Releasing souls: Lu god setting out,praying for power from god,the collating and translating about Ehoi: Releasing souls of the death by hanging from Dong Foreword.The chapter six is about the collating and translating of the Ehoi: Meeting the Lu god,Ehoi: Seeing the god off,the scattered Kobah characters from Naxi's classics in Harvard-Yenching Institute.The published Kobah classics have some problems such as redundant words or missing words in the scriptures parts,and so do the corresponding translation parts.Besides,the wrong translation also exits in Chinese translation parts.It employs some kinds of collating methods such as contrasting two different versions,contrasting the context in the same book,judging by logic to collate the published purely Kobah classics,completes the exiting Kobah classics and sets a firm foundation for Kobah research.On the basis of above six chapters,from the seventh chapter to the ninth chapter,it focuses on the relationship between the Chinese and Kobah character,the origin of,and the Writing system derived from that exiting in Kobah character through using the present Kobah reference books.The concrete content is as follows.Chapter seven mainly analyzes that the Writing system derived from (?) is one kind of representative characters in Kobah character and deserves further research.We define it on the basis of Kobah character (?),through changing or adding its shape,the meaning has some relationship with Chinese Shui character.Selecting the Writing system derived from (?) that recorded by the present Kobah reference books and Kobah classics as its research object,it analyzes and concludes its shape,pronunciation,meaning through typology method.By using the sample-check method,we conclude that the mind of creating character has its continuity and creativity when one nation creates two kinds of different characters in different periods.Besides,Kobah character is one kind of immature characters,still reserving some kind of ideographic writing's characteristics.Chapter eight mainly analyzes the close relationship between the Kobah script and Chinese.On the basis of the existing research results,the thesis takes another way by comparing the Kobah script which can be determined the writing times in the existing references with the Chinese frequently used in Yunnan during the same time.It aims at exploring the law that how the Kobah script borrows from Chinese.We arrive at some conclusion that different Doba have some universality and individuality when using Chinese-Kobah scripts.There are unevenly distributed in areas when using Chinese-Kobah script but the reference is nearly the same.The beginning,developing and inheriting of Chinese-Kobah script has a long history,the time is different when different Chinese scripts were borrowed by Kohah script.After Chinese script was borrowed by Kobah script,in the beginning of the using,the character pattern and the meaning of the character are nearly the same with the original character,but as the more frequently using,the borrowing phenomenon is coming,and later the Phonetic Loan Characters have different patterns as the developing of character system,such as seal character,Traditional Chinese and non-standard Chinese characters.Chapter nine mainly analyzes that Kobah Script was borrowed from the Chinese character "?".Through collating and analyzing the existing documents in the Kobah dictionary and the translated texts,we know that its original meaning is "you",is a abbreviation of (?),which was borrowed from Chinese character "?".When the Kobah Script means "small",they are homophonous characters.When means "mouth","angle" or "heart" and so on,it can be named borrowed under the guise of sound.The innovation of this dissertation is as follows.Firstly,the material is complete.The present published purely Kobab classics are collated and translated systematically by this dissertation for the first time.Secondly,the research horizon is broad.It not only collates the original Kobah text but also the corresponding Chinese and the IPA pronounced by Naxi.In addition,the characters that unrecorded by Kobah reference books have also been discriminated and verified.Lastly,the theory of collating and translating is innovative.It sums up the experiences of collating and translating Kobah literature,extracts out the concrete principles and provides some ideas for further Kobah research.
