It is artists' duty to promote the creative transformation of traditional Chinese culture in different periods.Given that,I would like to introduce a significant figure,Wang Yuanqi,an important artist in the history of landscape painting,whose ideas and thoughts really played a role in landscape painting over the past 300 years.In the mid-and-late 1800 s,inside and outside backwardness in China made some scholars lose confidence in Chinese culture,whether in tradition or in Chinese painting.They argued that Dong Qichang and the Big Four in the early Qing Dynasty,including Wang Yuanqi,could not deserve their fame,and Wang Yuanqi's works were just copies of other masterpieces painted by historic artists.Furthermore,They commented that a few painting artists had negative effect on landscape painting,including Wang Yuanqi.Such ideas have became more and more heated in the period of society transformation over the past 100 years,which made people deliver polar comments on Wang Yuanqi's painting and his status.Even nowadays,there are a multitude of people who overestimate or underestimate him blindly.Such phenomenon really plays a bad role when people try to have a knowledge of Wang Yuanqi's painting works and his fame,and have further learning of Chinese culture.Considering that,I would like to take deep study of Wang Yuanqi's landscape works,including how he evolved his painting and why he made such changes.His ways of using Chinese paintbrushes,black ink,colors and how he set the layout of hills and mountains in painting works are also involved.Style analysis,sociology,graphics,philology and narration are my study tools.In the preface,I want to say why I take this study,in which I am going to point out my judgement of why some people admire or disdain Wang's works.It is their partial understanding of Wang's painting that leads such result.At the same time,relevant studies written by scholars home and abroad is going to be reviewed and commented.My narration line and study methods will also be narrated in detail in this chapter.Firstly,Wang's works can be arranged into different groups by means of style analysis,sociology,graphics,philology.Such practice can let me find when Wang took innovation in his paintings and why he did so.According to the action,Wang's painting features in different periods of his career can emerge.Secondly,I endeavor to review painting terms like paintbrush using and ink using in literati painting carefully,for figuring out how Wang took the paintbrush and ink into characteristic use.I think Wang's methods of using the two material are absolutely innovative,after Dong Qichang's practice of putting more focus on them.Wang's unique experience expanded the space in painting,and left much for following artists.Thirdly,the history of how to use colors in landscape painting will be reviewed,in order to let Wang's ideas of using colors emerge.My conclusion is that based on tradition,Wang make further exploration of some relations,involving ink and color,color and color,the paintbrush and color.His own ideas and practice of using colors made it more important in landscape painting,which also benefited following artists.Fourthly,I am going to reorganize the time-honored history of how hills and mountains can be arranged in painting practice,for giving my view that Wang's layout followed and innovated styles in the Song and Yuan Dynasty.Wang didn't following Dong Qichang's track after Dong's undervaluing of Huang Gongwang's work called Warm Trees and Foggy Mountains.he transformed the layout called broken landscape into accumulated stones and further mountains.Wang's experience and ideas,including accumulated stones and further mountains,magnificent mountain veins and changing space,have been popularized.Fifthly,I would like to illustrate Wang‘s thoughts of painting and his overall knowledge of Chinese culture according to an analysis of his writing,words and seal in his painting works?His innovation,critical spirit,and judgments on Nan Zong will also be identified?At last,my conclusions can emerge.Wang put Dong Qichang's Nan Zong Theory into his own practice in different periods of his career.Based on tradition,he made exploration in paintbrush using,ink using,color using and so on.I hope that landscape painters and researchers can have a overall knowledge of Wang's works and his status and learn much from him according to my study.May more masterpieces emerge after the creative transformation of Chinese culture.
