It is a challenging subject to put the art museum education into the public context.In the past 20 years,the public has become a popular academic topic,not only covering philosophy,politics,society,culture,management,art and education,but also in the field of art museums.But what does public mean for the education of the art museum? What's the difference about education between the museum and the school? How can it provide theoretical and practical support for the education of the art museum? This paper was written from the theoretical and practical point of view to answer those questions.The full text is divided into six parts.The introduction part of this paper defines the research scope of the art museum education,expounding the significance of discussing the art museum education in the context of public,and demonstrating the necessity and inevitability of this research by analyzing the existing research results related to this topic at home and abroad.it explores the connotation of the nature of public of the art museum,and constructs the main body of the paper.The first chapter reviews and analyzes the historical development of the art museum as a modern public culture educational institution.From the perspective of history,society,philosophy and so on,it analyzes the evolution of the art museum from the private cabinet to the public space,and points out that public is the basic characteristic of the modern art museum,distinguishing from the art museum in the ancient times.The second chapter studies the educational behavior which occurs in the view of the development of the museum public space.The article first analyzes the reason of the material space of the art museum,and how the space changes happened because of the public feature.Then it summarizes and analyzes the characteristics and construction of public relations in the educational communication and behavior which happened in the view of social space.And point out the influence of the public characteristics in the art museum education from the point of view of space and time in the rapid development of the information age.Chapter three analyzes the educational foundation of the art museum from the perspective of public cultural service institution.This part starts from the public goods and public interest,analyzing the two aspects of art museum education including the material resources and guiding principles,clearing the public cultural service characteristic of the art museum education compared with the school art education.The fourth chapter expounds the stage of public feature in the educational practice of art museum,and emphatically analyzes the specific ecological environment and the characteristic of the educational communication behavior in the current art museum education practice.In order to comparing with the school art education and guiding the museum education program planning,this chapter uses different forms of education,such as the non-formal education,the formal education and the in-formal education,to analyze its characteristics from the unique ecological environment of art museum,and based on the art museum education from cultural learning,emotional experience,creative ability,and critical thinking and so on.The fifth chapter explains the theoretical research of this thesis bases on 4 specific educational cases.Case 1 focuses on the ways of equal communication between teaching and learning,and also reflects the application of the theoretical achievements of the educational research institute in the museum education practice.Case 2 describes the Museum of the Clark Art Institute's education services for both ordinary people and professional researchers,and its close collaboration with community development as well.Case 3 is an example of the art museum in China to carry out specific education service for the disadvantaged groups.Case 4 focus on the possibility of the art museum formal course which includes other public cultural resources,and the possibility of the network with other cultural institutions in China.
