In the adult world, due to the rapid development of times, people face increasingly complex living and working environment, which leads to the increasingly urgent degree of close cooperation among each other.Instrumental help-seeking and help-giving are becoming more important and crucial. Therefore,it is very important to understand the formation of them.Attachment style represents an individual's view of oneself and others, which can affect interpersonal behavior including instrumental help-seeking and help-giving.However,there are relatively few researches studying how attachment style influences instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors. Therefore, based on attachment theory, this study explores the mediating roles of interpersonal related cognition and negative emotions between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors.Interpersonal related cognition includes the cognition of self-social competence and the cognition of others' credibility, which are measured by social self-efficacy and interpersonal trust respectively. This study consists of three parts and a total of 7 studies(1 interview study,1 social network study,4 experimental studies, and 1 questionnaire study),involving 2 adult samples with formal work experience and 5 adult samples of college students. The first part includes a semi-structured interview study and a social network study, which aim to qualitatively explore and quantitatively examine the relationship between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving.The interview research also involves social self-efficacy,interpersonal trust and negative emotion,so as to preliminarily explore the mediation hypotheses of this study and provide a basis for further research. The second part consists of four experimental studies.Experiment 1 explores the relationship between attachment style and social self-efficacy,interpersonal trust, negative emotion,help-seeking behavior and help-giving behavior by initiating different attachment states.Experiment 2-4 manipulated three mediating variables respectively, namely interruptting mediation path or not to explore whether social self-efficacy,interpersonal trust and negative emotion play mediating roles between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors,so as to enhance causal explanation among variables. The third part is a questionnaire study. It aims to explore whether social self-efficacy,interpersonal trust and negative emotion play multiple mediating roles between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors. The study came to the following conclusions:Experimental research had verified that social self-efficacy,interpersonal trust and negative emotion play mediating roles between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors respectively. However,in the cross-sectional questionnaire research, only interpersonal related cognition, namely, social self-efficacy and interpersonal trust played mediating roles between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors, while the mediating role of negative emotion between attachment style and instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors was not verified. This study demonstrates the potential process of attachment style on instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors. It enriches the effect of attachment on interpersonal behavior, and provides further empirical evidence for the research on the causes of individual differences in instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors from the perspective of attachment. At the same time,it deepens and develops the attachment theory and helps to deeply understand the role of different interpersonal cognition in the process of attachment style influencing instrumental help-seeking and help-giving behaviors. The results of this study provide enlightenment for intervention of help-seeking and help-giving behaviors, which not only conforms to the goal of building China into a harmonious modern socialist country, but also conforms to the requirements of "implementing healthy China strategy" proposed at the 19 th national congress of the CPC.
