The purpose of this study was to describe the background of the elderly's living situation in Cambodia.This study selected 391 respondents in Pursat province.Therefore,this study aims to investigate the socio-economic factors determining the vulnerability of the elderly in Cambodia.It examines policies and programs that are designed to make sure that the protection of the elderly against all forms of vulnerabilities.It also intends to assess the effectiveness of programs intended to protect the elderly against any vulnerabilities.It is thus important to understand the socio-economic context influencing the vulnerability of the elderly in order to contribute to the formulation of policies designed to improve the situation of the elderly.This study adopted both qualitative and quantitative approaches.The qualitative information was important in order to capture the respondents'feelings,views and sentiments on the nature,forms,and limitations of existing formal and informal social protection measures through interviews.The quantitative data were conducted on samples through a questionnaire in dealing with interview.This study is designed to find the living situation of the elderly,and aimed to describe only the frequency of the health status,demographic,social,economic profile of Cambodia's older population.The mixed method of qualitative and quantitative was given the premise because it allowed detailed data,provided a deeper insight into actual problems faced,as well as the number of people affected and the extent of the problem.As the results,elderly people in Pursat province are facing multiple sources of vulnerability;these include low incomes,health problems,and social isolation.To be suggestive,policies for the elderly should take an inclusive and interactional approach,and collaboration between the various stakeholders involved in assisting the elderly is necessary in order to better improve their situation.The study also provided a case study on the role of Social protection,which is part of social development,focuses on local community development with the emphasis not only on economic development,but also on improvement of health,education,environment and standard of living as critical contributors to sustainable development.
