University:Its Philosophical Implication

Chinese universities arefacing numerous problems and spiritual crisis at present.Tracing its to its source,we believe the root cause is thatChinese universities have forgotten their original purpose to a large extent,not introspecting themselves;and not considering internal change or internal re-engineering.Meanwhile they're affected by maternal gains not listening to the call from their heartand not wandering quondam homeland happily and contendedly.Universities haveneglected the intrinsic value and significance which are based on their depths of spirit and history.They're developing with vigorous strides,howeverthey have forgotten the reason why they started originallyand the position their homeland occupies in the world.Nowadays the flesh-and-blood ties between Chinese university and philosophy are severed.Because the Chinese universities have lost its own authentic philosophy so thoroughly that its philosophical implications are shadowed and veiled,and its pure philosophical speculation became scarce in places which are now so-called universities.Because of the lack of its philosophical implication,universities have lost the most precious spiritual pursuit and principles by which they can settle down and get on with their pursuit.By investigating the growth of university's spiritual life,we found that there is an inseperable connection between university and philosophy.Generally,we believe university originated from human's demands,especially in a higher level of spiritual.We attribute the birth of university to human's pursuit of philosophy--the earliest“University" was generated when philosophical activities became one of public activities."Their needs explained their natures."(Marx)which proved that it's wrong to separate University from philosophy.The spiritual content of ancient university was made up from philosophical spirit,and all knowledge that university taught was almost philosophical.In the process of development,the pursuit of philosophy towards truth,facilitated the appearance of university which is in modern sense.It becomes more and more important for philosophy to make contact with university that is a paradise where philosophy can develop naturally.University activities have promoted the development of philosophy,from which more and more subjects are born,making university a 'universe of knowledge' As a subject in university,although philosophy is challenged and attacked by theology and science,it still maintains its leading position in university knowledge system,which is especially obvious in liberal and free education of university.Philosophers directly promoted the birth and development of university and they can't separate from each other.Philosophers regard University as a field where they have philosophy pondered and practiced.University is the most ideal place where philosophers can inhabit for it has given philosophers leisure and provided the surest guarantee for learners who regard science as a vocation and pursue academic freedom.Various thoughts converge in university,where the most animate and energetic scholars gather together,encouraging each other.The mutual promotion between university and philosophy helps both of them make great progress.Nowadays,university can be divided into two types:one is philosophical university and the other one is mechanical university.They are different in morphological characteristics and spiritual implication.And the more philosophical university conforms to its nature,the more it can meet the internal needs of the development of university and the people.As a result of losing spiritual implication,the mechanical University appeared.What have led to the lost of philosophical implication are the elements such as effect of secularization,requirement of career,impact of market,inundation of scientism,influence of nationalism,and the like.University has walked out of 'the tower of ivory'instantly,and it gradually manifested as a tool,deviated from its own mental implication father and farther.Chinese University needs such a philosophical spirit which is self-contained and independent,a spirit which make a person to reflect on its own value and significance.The intrinsic value of university lies in the academic freedom and university autonomy is the institutional guarantee of why university is university.Without the self-sufficiency,University inevitably descend to be a tool;without the autonomy,University becomes so forceless that it is unable to assume its own mission and duty,unable to take up the mission from the society and nation independently.Without reflections,university will be more and more flattering and utilitarian and unable to cultivate its own spiritual temperament.Chinese university needs more philosophical implication to penetrate in its theory of school managements,content of courses and teaching methods.It follows that University urgently needs philosophical reversion at present.
