At present,our country's professional basketball is in a stage of rapid development.The operating mechanism of the market is moving towards standardization and perfection.As the core element of professional basketball,the quality of its competition products has drawn wide attention from all walks of life.Professional basketball coaches as athletic training and competition mentor,the level of their coaching ability is related to the sports team's competitive level directly,and thus affect the wonderful level of competition products.Therefore,the ability of coaches competing with the rapid development of professional basketball match the needs of the people has become the focus of attention.From the perspective of human resource management,the competency of professional basketball coaches is one of the most important factors affecting their performance.In order to improve the competency of professional basketball coaches in our country,this paper follows the research paradigm of competency characteristics and constructs the competency model of professional basketball coaches in China by using the methods of literature review,field research,key event technical interview,Delphi method and data statistics,On the basis of which to further explore the relationship between professional basketball coaches competency and performance,and to provide effective strategies and suggestions on how to improve the human resources management mechanism of professional basketball coaches.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Construct the competency model of professional basketball coaches in our country.The model is composed of 16 competency indicators in 4 dimensions.The details are as follows: The cognitive ability dimension consists of coaching ideas,insight,analysis and summary,learning ability;the professional skill dimension consists of formulating training plans,on-site command,team formation,guide players and motivation.The management ability dimension consists of communication skills,influence,overall planning and solving problems.Personal characteristics are composed of achievement motivation,innovation,emotion control.The results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis show that the four-dimensional model shows a higher level in each fitting index and the model is better verified.(2)Develop the evaluation table for competence characteristics of professional basketball coaches in our country.The table that consists 48 questions provides the operable measuring tool for the evaluation of professional level of coaches in China.According to the investigation of the level of professional competence characteristics of basketball coaches in China using the table,the rank of the average scores of four competencies dimensions is management capability(4.36)> professional skills(4.21)> personal traits(4.12)> cognitive ability(3.91).Combining with the further analysis of demographic variables,it can be concluded that there exist significant differences in the level of professional competence in terms of gender,age and teaching time.But the level of professional competence characteristics of basketball coaches shows no obvious difference in aspect of education background.(3)The performance evaluation system of professional basketball coaches in China is established,which is divided into three parts,that is,task performance,relationship performance and development performance,and 18 performance evaluation indexes.(4)Since there is a close relationship between the competency and the job performance of professional basketball coaches in China,The competency model constructed in this paper can better predict the job performance of professional basketball coaches.To be specific:(1)the dimension of cognitive ability has a significant positive prediction effect on task performance and relationship performance,while has no effect on the development performance.(2)The dimension of professional skill has a significant positive prediction effect on task performance and relationship performance,while has no effect on the development performance.(3)The dimension of management ability has a significant positive prediction effect on the relationship performance and task performance,while has no effect on the development performance.(4)The dimension of personal trait has a significant positive predictive effect on development performance,while has no effect on the task performance and development performance.(5)Based on the competency model built in this paper,corresponding strategies and suggestions are put forward in aspects of the system of professional basketball coaches talent selection,the training system,the performance evaluation system and the career planning.As a result,it would be possible to provide strong support for the management of professional basketball coaches in our country.
