The Cultural Character Of Intellectuals In The University Of The Republic Of China

As scholar elite in modern university intellectuals,teacher groups in Republic of China are fundamentally different from traditional scholars in terms of values,ideal ambitions and role behaviors.Under the influence of foreign enemies invading,political chaos,backward culture and so on,the intellectual group of the Republic of China still showed the spiritual quality and the commendable spirit and acquired the academic achievement.As the first generation of university intellectual in Chinese history,they left spiritual resources that is worthy of deep excavation.Professor group in Southwest Associated University is composed of professors in Tsinghua University,Peking University,and Nankai University in the anti-Japanese war period,and they are outstanding figures in the modern university teacher groups.The Southwest Associated University,as a temporary university with only eight years of existence,is still being commemorated and written so far.The main reason is that the spiritual character of the people in the University moved later generations.It is a desirable research path to understand the ideals and beliefs and value pursuits of modern university teacher groups by examining the cultural character of professors in the Southwest Associated University.On the basis of carding and interpreting the relevant historical documents,this study draws on the relevant theoretical resources of the intellectuals,uses the ideal type to grasp the connotation of the cultural personality of the university,and then analyzes the influencing factors of the cultural character formation and display.To study the role of the association and the practice of activities,and finally based on the study and discussion of professors in the Southwest Associated University,from the overall understand and grasp the character formation and display of intellectuals in the Republic of China.As an emerging group of modern China,modern university intellectuals need to establish identity by constructing their own social position,which is a complex process of social interaction,and external favorable conditions must be taken.In general,the rise of modern university has laid the foundation for the system of its identity construction.The students studying abroad are the main personnel composition of the university intellectuals and the knowledge and ideological basis of the identity construction of the modern academic introduction period.Newspapers and periodicals are major medium of external power network for university intellectuals.It was precisely because of these conditions,a relatively solid identity and cultural identity was established.The representative intellectuals of the Republic of China in the Southwest Associated University can adhere to their ideals and beliefs and values during the war.The professor group in the Southwest Associated University have rich connotation.On the basis of the consolidation and analysis of historical data,this study mainly analyze and interpret the four dimensions from elite consciousness,sense of urgency,spirit of seeking truth,spirit of independent criticism and so on.In the absence of material conditions and under the harsh war environment,the Professor's elite identity of the University was greatly reduced and their elite consciousness was more and more highlighted.The recognition of the academic value by professor of the University is the inherent support of their elite consciousness,a strong sense of responsibility and sensitivity are the core of its elite consciousness.The sense of urgency of professors in the University of is deep expression of their patriotic feelings,especially,their sense of urgency in education and academic activities,public opinion and poetry are reflected in the creation.Academic freedom and the pursuit of truth are complementary ideals and beliefs.Professors of the University not only show their academic freedom,but also teach students the pursuit of truth freely.Independence and criticism are closely linked.The academic independence of Professor of the University is mainly manifested in three aspects: academy is independent from the West,politics and;individual is independentfrom the group;the critical spirit of professors of the University is reflected in both academic and social aspects.The influential factors of the culture personality of professor group are complex and multidimensional.First,the cultural traditions have a subtle influence on the educational philosophy,building up national power,and the cultural identity of the Southwest Associated University;Secondly,the Japanese air raids,inflation,policy and political environment and the complex and real local environment of Yunnan province constitute severe test to the cultural personality and role behavior of the professor group in the Southwest Associated University;Third,the management system,interpersonal relationships,academic atmosphere of the University in the academic community played a necessary role of protection of the ideal beliefs for professor groups there;Finally,academic interest and personality differences enhanced academic composure of professor group of the University in the harsh environment,but also present a variety of cultural character.The above four levels of factors are not isolated,and they play even a role to the professor group in the University,and it plays roles to professor groups in the Southwest Associated University in different individuals and even different directions to some degree.Professor of the University are subject to many restrictions,they still carry out scientific research through various channels and make corresponding contributions in theoretical innovation and serving economic and social development.Under the inspiration of the real environment,through public newspapers and magazines,rallies,joint notice,radio and other means,professors participate in expressing public care about public opinions.Professors made full use of their academic advantages to carry out social services and made great contributions in promoting the education development,supporting the anti-Japanese war and serving the economic and social development in Yunnan province.Professors in the Southwest Associated University are excellent figures ofintellectuals in universities of the Republic of China and their pursuit of ideals,beliefs and values is representative and exemplary.Based on the study and discussion of the professor group of the Southwest Associated University,it helps us to understand the cultural character of the intellectuals of the Republic of China in general and further understand the generation and demonstration of cultural character from the tradition and the modernity,the academy and the politics,the freedom and the responsibility,the commonness and the individuality,the ideal and the reality and five pairs of complex relationships and contradictions.
