Interdisciplinary competence is the comprehensive character which contributes to the multidimensional and authentic scientific problem solving.As a higher-order thinking ability,it relates to how students deal with the complex scientific issues in real-life and unconventional work in the future.In light of competence,developing students' interdisciplinary competence has been the key issue in science education reform.This study selects junior middle school students as research objects,focuses on interdisciplinary competency in science education(ICSE),and carries out systematic empirical work.And the main research process and results are as follows:We clarify the connotative definition of ICSE by etymological analysis and the concept definition in the previous study.ICSE highlights employing different disciplinary knowledge,thinking methods and inquiry skills to figure out the authentic problems in the integration framework.On the basis of that,we differentiate the relationship between ICSE,scientific literacy and disciplinary competence explicitly and discuss the academic theoretical foundations of this concept.Moving around the rationales of competence assessment and international experience analysis,we determine the study paradigm of competence assessment,construction route of the ICSE evaluation framework and selection of measurement model.According to the inductive work of the theoretical models in place,we tentatively extract the common dimensions.Then the four are revised and redefined based on the specific instantiation of interdisciplinary idea in secondary science curriculum and research results of the classroom learning behavior.Finally,every sub-dimension is divided into three developmental levels form low to high referring to the related theory and empirical evidence.And we get the scientific and reasonable ICSE evaluation framework.Centering on the framework,we determine the paper-pencil test oriented by authentic assessment and design the ICSE assessment instrument which is used in multiple case and small sample pilot test.The verbal data and response data provide information for quality examination and revision of the instrument.After the optimization,we are accessible to the qualified assessment instrument which can be used in the actual measurement.We evaluate 385 9-Garde students' ICSE with this instrument.Based on the Rasch partial credit model,we get subjects' estimates on ICSE and the four sub-dimensions respectively through software Winsetps 3.81.0.According to the interview and results from SPSS 22.0 statistical analysis,we compare the performance characteristics and difference of students' ICSE and four sub-dimensions' measures in detail.As the critical point is made by the expected dimensional level and actual measure of the items,we change students' score from continuous scaling to discrete scaling,and their sub-dimension levels are treated as the diagnosis results.As a result,we can investigate the dimensional level distribution of the overall sample and different groups,which achieves the double function as macro competence performance description and micro dimensional level location.In addition to that,we synthesize students' four sub-dimension levels as the reference to classify the diagnosis results,which displays two basic patterns,balanced and unbalanced.In order to make assessment give feedback to instruction,we supply individual and class test reports.And then in the light of maximum differentiation,we select 6 students to inquiry their thinking process in the test deeply.Following the evaluation,we inquire the influence factor of students' ICSE which can let assessment return to and direct instruction further.First of all,we ascertain three factors from theory analysis and literature review.Based on that,we develop questionnaire,conduct the survey and acquire the observable values of all the factors.In consideration of the questionnaire with the sound validity and reliability,we use software Winsetps 3.81.0 to process data based on the Rasch rating scale model in order to overcome the deficiency which brings by the raw gross score.With the SPSS 22.0 software,we conduct multiple regression analysis which determines the multiple linear relationships between independent variables and dependent variable.Then we make sure the influence mechanism among these variables through mediating effect analysis.Finally,this study provides some instructive suggestions with the reflection of status quo.ICSE is the basic requirement of the future citizen and talents to the present science education.Focusing on this key concept,this study moves along the way as what,how and why,constructing the evaluation framework on the theoretical facet,while doing assessment and studying influence factors on the practical facet.We get the rich empirical data and achieve the expected research objects.This study is helpful for China's local science education study and competency-oriented evaluation,which provides evidence and support for boosting science education reform.At the same time,we need further study on enriching research sample,optimizing assessment instrument,and inquiring the effectiveness of diagnosis feedback and teaching interventions in accordance with the influence mechanism,which are all the subsequent research directions.
