In recent years,China is deepening reforms comprehensively, and maintaining rapid economic growth. At the same time, great changes have occurred in both the division of labor and social structure.Although the society remains stable, there are some indicators suggested many people consider they are disadvantaged than others in our society. Therefore, disadvantaged mindset attracts attention of scholars. At present, there are many theoretical analyses of why disadvantaged mindset appears and how to intervene it.These articles suggested that disadvantaged mindset is caused by social factors such as injustice, faulty social systems, and psychological factors such as upward social comparison. At the same time,a small amount of empirical research has found that social systems such as imbalances in political capital and lack of channels for the expression of popular interests are factors that lead to disadvantaged mindset. However, there are some limits:(1)the theoretical analysis of disadvantaged mindset does not have a unified definition of the disadvantaged mindset,(2)the empirical research does not have a unified measurement tool,(3)there are few study foucus to the impact of the disadvantaged mindset on society. Thus, several key issues about disadvantaged mindset remain unclear.First, what is disadvantaged mindset? How to measure it effectively? Second, where does disadvantaged mindset come from? In other word, why do people have disadvantaged mindset? Third, what impact does the disadvantaged mindset have on society? The purpose of the study 1 was to reveal the relationship between social quality and the disadvantaged mindset. The main method is the method of correlation analysis.Sub-Study 1 used the data of Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)to test the relationship between social quality and disadvantaged mindset, and found social quality was significantly negative with disadvantaged mindset. In order to further determine the relationship between social quality and the disadvantaged mindset,sub-study 2 developed a scale to measure disadvantaged mindset, which including 8 items with good reliability and validity.Then,sub-study 3 distributed 787 questionnaires to examine the relationship of social quality and disadvantaged mindset using the disadvantaged mindset scale and social quality scale. The results of sub-study 3 and sub-study 1 are consistent, both indicating the worse social quality, the more people feel disadvantaged. The purpose of Study 2 is to specifically reveal how social quality affects the disadvantaged mindset.Four sub-studies are used to investigate the causal relationship between social quality and disadvantaged mindset through experimental research.Among them,Sub-Study 4 examined the impact of social economic security, and found that the worse the socio-economic security, the higher the score of the disadvantaged mindset;Sub-Study 5 examined the impact of social tolerance on the disadvantaged mindset, and found no significant difference;Sub-study 6 examines the impact of social cohesion, and no significant differences were found;sub-study 7 examines the impact of social empowerment, and found that the higher the social empowerment, the lower the public's mindset.Through these four studies,we found that social quality influences the disadvantaged mindset. The lower the quality of a society, the more severe the disadvantaged mindset. In the third study,in order to test the social effects of the disadvantaged mindset,we focus on the influence of the disadvantaged mindset on the system justifying belief. It is assumed that the root of the formation of the people's systematic rational beliefs is the objective social quality, which is formed through the intermediary factors of the disadvantaged mindset, that is,the disadvantaged mindset is one of the antecedent variables of the system justifying belief. The main method of this study is through correlation analysis and testing of the intermediary model. There are three studies in total.Among them,sub-study 8 uses data from the World Values Survey to test the mediating role of disadvantaged mindset between social quality and system justifying belief;sub-study 9 uses the social quality scale, weak mentality scale and system justifying belief scale to test again The mediating role of disadvantaged mindset between social quality and system justifying belief;SubStudy 10 examined the relationship between disadvantaged mindset and system justifying belief in the context of COVID-19.The data from three studies show that the disadvantaged mindset is an important factor in explaining the system justifying belief. The lower the social quality and the more disadvantaged mindset, the lower system justifying belief.Through the above research,we found that: First, because disadvantaged mindset is essentially a cognitive tendency for self and has a certain degree of stability.Secondly, low social quality is an important factor that causes disadvantaged mindset.Social quality affects disadvantaged mindset, which also shows that the social environment is the soil that nurtures the psychology of the people. In addition, the external social environment has an impact on people's psychology, which in turn will affect people's subjective cognition of the external environment. This subjective cognition of the external environment is the system justifying belief. In other words, the disadvantaged mindset also affects people's systematic justifying beliefs.Through the study of the objective source and social impact of the disadvantaged mindset,we believe that the disadvantaged mindset is the bridge between the objective social quality and the system justifying belief. To sum up,the three major studies(a total of 10 small studies)in this thesis, from the perspective of social quality theory, address the issues of what disadvantaged mindset is(essentially a measurement tool),where it comes from, and what social impact it will cause. It provides usable tools for future research on the disadvantaged mindset, explains the source of the disadvantaged mindset and its social impact, and provides empirical data support for how social existence determines social awareness.
