Although China has become the world's largest manufacturing country,the Chinese manufacturing industries confront with internal and external pressure of transformation and upgrading,particularly when Chinese economy has been in a new era of sustainable and high-quality development.The mission of transformation and upgrading is to change fundamentally the situation that China's manufacturing industry is big but not strong.Taking into account the trend that the global economic started the structural transformation to the service economy,we find generally high-income countries have experienced the coordinated development between producer services and manufacturing industries.In China,the producer services,however,was still unable to meet the demand of manufacturing industry because of its short history and low level of capabilities,which resulted in the following challenges.Firstly,the scale and the capabilities of producer services are quite low.Secondly,the internal structure of producer services is unreasonable,such as the under-development of high-end producer services.Thirdly,the specialization and professionalization of China's productive service are in shortage.Therefore,it is the key way to promote the coordinative development of manufacturing industry and producer service,which will advance the industrial transformation and upgrading of China.Theoretically,this study contributes to extant literature by revealing the law and mechanism of collaborative development between producer services and manufacturing industry.Practically,the potential contribution of this study is to provide operational policy suggestions that promote the coordinated development between China's producer services and manufacturing industry.This dissertation grounds on industry economics,new economic geography,industrial cluster theory,the self-organizing theory and evolutionary economic theory,taking advantage of the methodology of normative study,empirical study and comparative analysis,and explores the mechanism of the coordinated development between producer services and manufacturing industries from perspectives of the symbiotic evolution,organizational interaction.This dissertation expounds two kinds of effects of the coordinated development between producer services and manufacturing industries--spatial aggregation effect and the industrial innovation effect,and examines empirically the interactive mechanisms that producer services coordinate with manufacturing industries,using the panel data model.The dissertation includes the following four parts of studies.Firstly,the cooperative development mechanism of producer services and manufacturing industry is constructed.The first is to define three basic elements of the symbiotic relationship between the producer services and manufacturing-symbiosis unit,symbiosis environment and symbiosis model.And,the symbiotic relationship between the two industries populations is investigated based on Logistic mode.The second is to expound the promoting effect of producer services on manufacturing industry from the perspectives of production efficiency,technological innovation ability and resource consumption.On the other hand,the paper analyzes how the manufacturing industry influences the development of producer services through industrial association,industrial structure,size of demand and innovation promotion.The third is to propose the organization mechanism that producer services interact with manufacturing based on the factors such as enterprise derivation,self-reinforcement,network growth and macro regulation,government regulation.Secondly,I discuss the synergistic effect between producer services and manufacturing.I analyze the synergistic effect between producer services and manufacturing from two aspects-agglomeration and innovation and explore the collaborative performance between producer services and manufacturing via industrial linkage and spatial linkage,respectively.I also take the distribution industry and logistics industry as examples to analyze the coordination agglomeration between producer services and manufacturing industries.Moreover,I establish a cooperative game model to illustrate the incentive effect of synergistic relationship between producer services and manufacturing industries on innovation on the basis of the collaborative innovation system and operation mechanism between producer services and manufacturing industries,and analyze the symbiotic evolutionary relationship in collaborative innovation between manufacturing industry and producer services.Thirdly,the empirical analysis was conducted to examine the synergistic development between producer services and manufacturing industries.I firstly conduct an empirical analysis on the synergistic clustering and synergistic innovation between producer services and manufacturing industry using the panel data from cities of Hubei province.Then I establish a synergistic innovation system for producer services and manufacturing,and measure the order degree of the system.Also,I employ the 2SLS model by means of instrumental variable to examine empirically the interactive relationship between producer services and manufacturing industry in Hubei province,drawing on the panel data model.Finally,the international comparative study was performed to investigate the coordinated development between producer services and manufacturing industry.The practices from four developed countries,including the United States,Britain,Germany and Japan,were studied to summarize how they promote the synergistic development between producer services and manufacturing industries,and thus the policy implications were also concluded to promote the synergistic development between producer services and manufacturing industries in China.The main conclusions were drawn.The first,drawing on the Logistic model analysis,I find that producer services and manufacturing industry,as two symbiotic population,produced large gain when the symbiotic condition is satisfied,and the reciprocal symbiosis is asymmetric.The second,in the case of the relationship between logistics and manufacturing industries,the results of mathematical model analysis show that only when the marginal cost of logistics enterprises lies in the certain scope,manufacturing and logistics industry can create spatial agglomeration phenomenon.The third,the model of synergistic innovation between producer services and manufacturing industries,grounded on the evolutionary game theory,shows that the comprehensive environmental factors and knowledge spillover effect not only influence the equilibrium output between producer services and manufacturing industries in an independent way,but also work together on the producer services and manufacturing industries.The fourth,the empirical results show that the interactive relationship exists between the producer services and manufacturing industries and that producer services alleviate the "bottleneck" of natural resources and ecological environment and promote the manufacturing industry to speed up the development and transformation and upgrading,through enhancing professional division of labor,reducing the transaction costs and intermediate input,improving the capability of manufacturing for technological innovation.Finally,the policy suggestions are proposed,from perspectives of synergistic agglomeration,innovation-driven mechanism,market environment and government guideline,to promote the synergistic development between producer services and manufacturing industries.This dissertation makes several contributions to existing related fields.Firstly,the theoretical framework of "symbiosis,interaction,self-organization and heter-organization,agglomeration and innovation" is developed to investigate the collaborative development of producer services and manufacturing industries.The coordinated development between producer services and manufacturing appears as a symbiotic relationship,interactions,self-organizing and heter-organization,which results in two kinds of effects—agglomeration and innovation.Secondly,an economic system analysis model of two factors,multi-products and two regions is constructed to reveal the influence of enterprise cost structure on the industrial synergistic agglomeration.Based on the model,the agglomeration relationship between the logistics with manufacturing industry is studied.Results show that only when the marginal cost of logistics enterprises lies in a certain scope,the synergistic agglomeration between manufacturing and logistics industry is likely to appear.Thirdly,the game theory model is developed to analyze the collaborative research and development between producer services and manufacturing industry.Analysis shows that the synergistic innovation between producer services and manufacturing industry has a positively cumulative effect.The manufacturing enterprise's incentive to participate in cooperative R&D is affected by the participation of the producer service enterprise.And,the income distribution,intensity of synergies and the history of collaboration also affect the incentive of both sides.Fourthly,the symbiotic relationship model is drawn on to analyze the symbiotic system evolution and equilibrium between producer services and manufacturing.Results show that the symbiosis between producer services and manufacturing is influenced by the integrated strength of environment and the knowledge spillover effect,but the final influence depends on the relative strength between the two effects.
