The goal of accelerating the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, moreover, enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial market becomes more clear in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, with "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone Regional Plan" putting forward in 2011.It is well-acknowledged that promoting industrial agglomeration is an important means of industrial upgrading and transformation. So far,the form of industrial agglomeration has evolved from a single industrial agglomeration to a coordinated agglomeration of related industries through long-term development.Collaborative agglomeration can form the mutual compensation between industries. At present, the most typical collaborative agglomeration is the collaborative agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing.Whether the regional competitiveness is improved is one of the signs to judge the success of industrial agglomeration. Therefore,we aim to explore the impact of the synergistic agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing on regional competitiveness for a better understanding of the results of the synergistic agglomeration effect, which provides the basis for formulating regional industrial development policies and forming competitive modern producer services and manufacturing industry clusters in the future.Based on the transaction cost theory, external economies of scale theory, industrial location theory and competitive advantage theory after reviewing the literatures of industrial synergy and regional competitiveness, and as the theories of this article,we focused on the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and combined with empirical analysis in order to explore the impact of the collaborative agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing on the regional competitiveness and its subsystems in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.First of all,a descriptive statistical analysis of the development of producer services and manufacturing industry in ChengduChongqing Economic Zone was conducted. It was reported that the producer services in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone developed rapidly during 2006-2017.However,the development was uneven and the manufacturing base was relatively weak, hence there is much room for improvement.Secondly, combining the analysis on the influence mechanism of the synergistic agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing on regional competitiveness,a research hypothesis was put forward to construct a measure model based on location entropy index and TOPSIS regional competition, also based on the entropy weight Evaluation model and the influence model of the collaborative agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing on regional competitiveness. Finally,we dived deep into the influence of co-concentration of producer services in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone on the regional competitiveness and its children based on the evaluation of the level of co-concentration of producer services and manufacturing in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and the regional competitiveness. In addition,we also divided 16 cities in ChengduChongqing Economic Zone into the high-synergy agglomeration groups and the lowsynergy agglomeration groups to analyze the effect of collaborative agglomeration on regional competitiveness at different collaborative agglomeration levels. The results showed that:(1)During 2006 and 2017,there were significantly difference of the level of agglomeration of producer services, agglomeration of the manufacturing industry and the coordinated agglomeration between the ChengduChongqing Economic Zone and the national average. Moreover, the gap between the levels of synergy between producer services and manufacturing among those cities in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone is increasing and showed the trend of polarization.(2)The coordinated agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone had a significant positive impact on regional competitiveness, economic power subsystem, ecological environment subsystem and regional innovation subsystem, which had an inverted U-shaped nonlinear relationship with the people's living standard subsystem. In high-synergy cluster cities of the Zone, the synergistic agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing had a significant positive impact on the ecological environment subsystem and regional innovation subsystem, and there was an inverse U-shaped relationship between the economic strength subsystem and regional competitiveness. What's more, there was an inverted U-shaped nonlinear relationship between the coordinated cluster of producer services and manufacturing and the people's living standard subsystem in the low-synergy cluster city of the Zone.(3)Direct utilization of foreign capital significantly promoted the effect on the regional economic power subsystem, ecological environment subsystem and the regional innovation subsystem, whereas significantly inhibited the effect on the infrastructure construction subsystem, thereby showing a comprehensive positive impact on regional competitiveness. In addition, industrial structure and per capita capital stock had important roles in promoting regional competitiveness and its various subsystems. In cities with high synergy between producer services and manufacturing in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, the direct use of foreign capital, the per capita capital stock and the increase in the proportion of tertiary industry had a greater influence on regional competitiveness than the entire region. However,in cities with low synergy clusters, the impact of industrial structure and per capita capital stock on regional competitiveness was smaller than that of the entire region.According to the results, the following policy recommendations are proposed:(1)The scientific planning of industrial clusters, accurate positioning, perfect industrial chain and the guidance of the producer services integrated into industrial clusters are required to promote the improvement of the level of coordinated agglomeration of regional producer services and manufacturing.(2)Strengthening the cross-regional industrial exchange and cooperation and the integration of the advantages of multiple cities are required to promote the common development of the entire region.(3)Relying on the local advantages, the reasonable introduction of foreign capital and active adjustment of the industrial structure are required.
