Research On The Impact Of Environmental Uncertainty And Absorption Capacity On Technological Standardization Of Communication Enterprises

With the deepening of economic globalization and the globalization of science and technology,technological standards have become the main force of market competition following the competition of products and technology.It has become not only an important factor for the survival and development of enterprises,but also a part of national strategy.Economic subjects gain competitive advantages by formulating and possessing standards.As the most active,driving and penetrating field of global innovation,the development of information and communication technology industry is often accompanied by fierce competition of technology standards.Therefore,technical standards play an important role in communication enterprises.However,the external environment,such as policy environment,technology environment and market environment,is becoming more and more complex.The uncertainty of the environment poses new challenges to the innovation ability and technology standardization ability of communication enterprises.However,few studies on Technology Standardization in the existing literature systematically and comprehensively examine the interaction effect of external environmental factors and internal capabilities on technology standardization.Takes the environmental characteristics and absorptive capacity faced by enterprises in the process of technology standardization as the main variables,the author examines the mechanism of environmental characteristics and absorptive capacity on technology standardization of enterprises and on organizational performance.Specifically,the study raises three questions:(1)how does environmental uncertainty affect technology standardization?(2)What role does absorptive capacity play in the process of technology standardization?(3)What role does technology standardization play in the relationship between environmental uncertainty,absorptive capacity and firm performance?In the specific research process,this paper adopts the research methods of combining literature review with theoretical deduction,qualitative examination and quantitative analysis,and carries on the analysis and discussion step by step according to the following steps.Firstly,the author systematically reviews the relevant literature on standardization theory,dynamic capability,technology standardization,environmental uncertainty and absorptive capacity.Secondly,with the help of two typical cases of Datang Telecom TD-SCDMA standard and China Mobile TD-LTE standard,this paper makes a preliminary discussion on the topic of "technology standardization of telecommunication enterprises and its influencing factors",and extracts the concepts of policy environment uncertainty,technology environment uncertainty,market environment uncertainty,alliance environment uncertainty and absorptive capacity that affect technology standardization.Thirdly,based on the preliminary conclusions of case analysis and the review of extant literature,a theoretical model of the relationship between environmental uncertainty,absorptive capacity,technology standardization and enterprise performance is constructed,and corresponding assumptions are put forward.Finally,a questionnaire is designed based on the existing maturity scale,and the sample data of 365 Chinese telecommunication enterprises are collected.The relationship between dependent variables and independent variables is validated by SPSS and AMOS software,so as to test the research hypothesis proposed above.Through the above research work,this paper finds that the uncertainty faced by technology standardization in market,environment,policy and alliance is enormous.The digestion and absorptive capacity of enterprises themselves to external knowledge also has a significant positive impact on the process of technology standardization of communication enterprises.At the same time,the knowledge absorptive capacity of enterprises also indirectly moderates the relationship between environmental uncertainty and technical standards,as reflected in the effect on enterprises performance.Specifically,this paper has the following conclusions:(1)Environmental uncertainty and absorptive capacity have a direct impact on technological standardization.Different degrees of environmental uncertainty have different effects on technology standardization,while different degrees of absorptive capacity concept have significant positive effects on technology standardization.This result directly validates the important value of absorptive capacity in dealing with highly complex and ambiguous environment.(2)Absorption capacity has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between environmental uncertainty and technical standardization.Different dimensions of absorptive capacity have different moderating effects on the relationship between environmental uncertainty and technological standardization.(3)Technological standardization partially mediates the relationship between environmental uncertainty,absorptive capacity and firm performance.This paper makes contributions in the following aspects:(1)theoretical contribution: from the internal and external factors,this paper systematically explores the impact of technological standardization and its economic benefits of telecommunications enterprises.The author constructs and validates the model of the relationships between environmental uncertainty,absorptive capacity,technological standardization and enterprise performance.It enriches the theoretical research literature of communication technology standardization and provides necessary theoretical inheritance and reference for further research.(2)Enlightenment of technology standardization in telecommunication enterprises: This paper focuses on the important issues of information technology standardization under the new economic environment,analyses the ways to solve the difficult problems of technology standardization in China on enterprise level,and provides theoretical and data support for the implementation of technology standardization strategy in China,which is beneficial for enterprises to promote the fifth generation mobile communication(5G)more actively and effectively,research on domestic standards and international standards,formulate and publish the framework of industrial Internet standards system,and accelerate the formulation and application of new network technology standards.
