In order to survive and develop in an increasingly fierce market environment, and to cope with the challenges brought by the shortening of product development cycle and product complexity and innovation requirements, more and more companies choose to conduct collaborative product research and development, enjoying the higher efficiency in obtaining and utilizing external knowledge resource.Building up a good collaborative relationship between organizations is an important basis for collaborative product research and development.Collaboration between organizations is a cooperative relationship with the characteristics of consistent goals, resource sharing, information exchange, and joint decision-making.In the collaborative product development process, the acquisition and utilization of external knowledge resources reflect the relationship rent generation within the collaborative relationship and the organization's capability of obtaining relationship-based additional incomes and promoting product research and development. However, along with the progress and in-depth development of collaborative product development, friction and conflict will inevitably occur in the inter-organizational collaborative relationship, which will lead to unnecessary resource loss and knowledge transfer effect reduction in the collaborative research and product developlement and knowledge transfer process. Therefore, the effective management of collaborative relationship and the improvement of the inter-organizational collaboration quality have an important impact on the knowledge-transferring effect in collaborative product research and development.Based on the theory of resource-based theory, relationship theory, transaction cost theory and knowledge management theory, this paper clarifies the influence path and mechanism between collaboration quality, collaboration cost, and the knowledge-transferring effect. This study expands the application scenarios of collaborative research between organizations and provides specific suggestions for the organization to achieve effective collaborative product research and development. This study first clarifies the connotation of collaboration quality, collaboration cost and the knowledge-transferring effect, and defines their constituent dimensions.Secondly,it analyzes the relationship between collaboration quality, collaboration cost and the knowledge-transferring effect, and constructs a theoretical model and relevant research hypotheses.Subsequently, under the background of collaborative product research and development, based on 205 valid questionnaire data from 78 domestic manufacturing companies, the proposed research hypotheses are tested by regression analysis. Finally, based on the research results,The theoretical and practical significance of the research was explored. The main work and innovations of the thesis are:(1)Clarifying the constituent dimensions of inter-organizational collaborative quality, which lays a foundation for in-depth analysis of the relationship between collaboration relationship and knowledge-transferring effect.Combining with the characteristics of enterprise collaborative product research and development, and referring to existing research, the inter-organizational collaboration quality is divided into four dimensions: collaboration relationship characteristics, collaboration communication quality, collaboration resource sharing and collaboration issues management. The meaning of each dimension is discussed and measured by the measurement scale of collaboration quality. The validity of the scale were verified by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, which made the measurement of collaboration quality more in line with the collaborative product research and development of Chinese manufacturing enterprises.(2)Exploring the impact of collaboration quality on the knowledge-transferring effect, and analyzing the relationship between collaboration relationship characteristics, collaboration communication quality, collaboration resource sharing and collaboration issues management and knowledge-transferring effect, and put forward theoretical assumptions.Based on the real data of the questionnaire survey, the empirical research methods such as multiple linear regression were used to test the relevant research hypotheses. The empirical research found that the collaboration relationship characteristics, collaboration communication quality, collaboration resource sharing and collaboration issues management all have a positive impact on knowledge-transferring effect. Thus, the mechanism of the effect of collaborative quality on knowledge-transferring effect is clarified.(3)Clarifying the concept of collaboration cost, and dividing it into two dimensions:problem–solving collaboration cost and routine collaboration cost.It not only analyzes the individual moderation effect of problem–solving collaboration cost and routine collaboration cost in the relationship between each dimension of collaboration quality and knowledge-transferring effect, but also explores the role of the interacting moderation effect of problem–solving collaboration cost and routine collaboration cost in the relationship between each dimension of collaboration quality and knowledge-transferring effect. The empirical analysis finds that the problem–solving collaboration cost has a positive moderation effect in the relationship between collaboration resource sharing, collaboration issues management and knowledge-transferring effect. The routine collaboration cost has a positive moderation effect in the relationship between collaboration communication quality, collaboration issues management and knowledge-transferring effect. The problem–solving collaboration cost and routine collaboration cost have a joint positive interatcting moderation effect in the relationship between the four factors of collaboration quality and knowledge-transferring effect.
