Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to investigate, identify, and describe the roles and responsibilities of eight Arizona Department of Education (ADE) grant funded Chandler Arizona Police Department school resource officers as law related educational leaders on the campuses of their assigned secondary school campuses. While these officers fulfill a variety of roles in their capacity as school resource officers, this research study focuses on their role as providers of law related education curriculum. While the Chandler Police Department has ten officers assigned as school resource officers, only eight are funded by the ADE. These eight officers are the subjects of this study.;The design of this study utilized a multi-method descriptive approach incorporating officer activity logs, one on one officer interviews, contractual agreements, job descriptions, and training records as data sources. In addition an in-depth review of the related literature was conducted.;Data revealed that the Chandler SROs provided a high level of police services to their assigned schools and met or exceeded the ADE School Safety Grant requirement for presenting LRE despite experiencing a level of role ambiguousness between program stakeholders.
