Abstract/Summary:
What can be done to improve the success rate of Information Technology (IT) outsourcing in higher education projects? Completion of projects on time, on budget, and meeting the project requirements are the criteria used to determine project success. This research was carried out to address the real relationship between Information Technology outsourcing and higher education. The purpose of this research is to understand the relationship between Information Technology outsourcing satisfaction and IT cost, IT performance, IT reliability, and IT security. In addition, it is to understand the real reasons to outsource and not to outsource IT functions in higher education, as well as to understand the criteria that are used to select an IT outsourcing vendor. A quantitative survey was conducted to explore the relationship between IT outsourcing and higher education performance. The survey was administrated at two higher learning institutions in Michigan State: University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy. Linear regression technique was used to construct Information Technology outsourcing equations using Information Technology outsourcing satisfaction, motivation, resistance, and vendor selection as the dependent variables and cost, reliability, performance, security, cost-saving, operating efficiencies, problems with vendor, adequate in-house staff, lack of in-house skills, and vendor capability as independent variables. The equation was also tested for statistical significance and goodness of fit.
