Abstract/Summary:
Explored and identified in the qualitative case study were the success factors needed to successful implement knowledge management in a military-civilian organization. The sample included participants who were leaders, managers, and employees of NAVSEA and Warfare Centers who participated and guided teams in the implementation of knowledge management. Used in the study were semi-structured in-depth interviews to identify themes revealed by exhaustive data mining. Three major themes emerged: (a) leadership influence, (b) culture, and (c) training. Revealed in the research were specific elements of organizational leadership, organizational culture, and training that were essential in the implementation of knowledge management. The implication is that organizational leaders might benefit from the knowledge as the leader considers, prepares, and plans for the implementation of knowledge management as a quality management process, leading to successful training of individuals to replace retiring and resigning employees.
