Abstract/Summary:
Today's organizations are becoming more worldly and complex than ever. The new paradigm of leadership requires newer and different skills. Intuition, one such skill, has yet to be fully acknowledged and actualized by many leaders. The new organizational environments require more from leaders, especially the ability to make sound decisions quickly, often without the necessary facts and scientific data.; The purpose of this study was to determine and validate the application of intuition and its role in effective leadership and decision making. The study focused on leaders recognizing and acknowledging intuition as a necessary leadership tool that is quick, and applying intuition in their decision-making process/approach. The primary objective of the study was to identify, analyze, and validate the integration of intuition in the leadership decision-making process.; A total of 100 survey questionnaires were distributed among the managers at the subject organization, and a total of 50 responses were completed and returned to the researcher. The survey instrument was divided into three sections with a total of 30 questions. The first section of the questionnaire identified the participant's general information and data, related to their age, educational background, and number of years serving in a management position. The second section of the questionnaire was devoted to leadership and intuition questions, and the third section was two open-ended questions providing an opportunity for participants to express their personal views on engaging intuition in their decision-making processes.; The findings and the results from this study indicate intuition is an important, obtainable leadership skill that should be utilized and taken advantage of as an enabler in the decision-making process. Participants were asked a series of questions to identify their belief, recognition, and use of intuition in their critical decision-making leadership role(s). Data taken from the survey questionnaires revealed that the majority of respondents supported the use of intuition and considered it a powerful enabler for having an edge in the competitive organizational world. Leaders have expressed using intuition successfully and have also relied on intuition in their interpersonal relationships. Thus, intuition has been found to be a meaningful, valuable, and useful leadership element widely used in subject's organization.
