Abstract/Summary:
In the early 1990s The "Iron curtain" fell opening the doors for a number of Western Christian organizations to enter the countries of the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and establish various Christian educational institutions. This development has experienced a number of successes and failures. One of the main causes for failure lies in the realm of leadership. Typically, an effective leadership style is formed within a very complex situation. A number of vectors of influence and various powerful factors impact leadership formation. These factors often clash in the area of leadership.; This descriptive research reveals and clarifies the interplay of these factors through the study of the perceptions, tendencies and expectations of the main social groups involved in theological education. This research intends to help the stakeholders and others involved in theological education in the countries of the Former Soviet Union understand the issues, aspects, and perspectives of leadership in order that they may build a more effective theological education.; The findings of this research will assist theological educators in the Former Soviet Union to avoid certain failures, as well as to better understand the needs and expectations of students and teachers concerning the desirable characteristics of leadership style. Thus, this research will help them adjust and develop their leadership styles according to the needs and expectations of the people to whom they are ministering. Implications from this research will help evangelical educators build a healthy foundation and choose better directions for the further development of theological education in the countries of the Former Soviet Union.
