Since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy, China’s national economy has always kept the smooth, steady and rapid development trend for many years and made lots of amazing achievements, which are inseparable from our inheritance and development of Marxism ownership theory. It is of vital importance to strengthen our conviction of understanding Marxism ownership theory scientifically, review its development paths in different socialist states and draw lessons from the past.At present, some socialist states worldwide are still sticking to practicing Marxism ownership theory, including China, Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam, but among them, the Soviet Union which has become history and China which is still keeping the flourishing growth momentum have made the greatest contributions to Marxism ownership theory, accumulated the richest experience and lessons as well as influenced the largest areas.Based on the development viewpoint and tried-and-true standard, this paper mainly takes China and the Soviet Union as two examples to analyze the operation and development of Marxism ownership theory in the socialist states, review the production process of classical Marxism theory and the years full of passion when the construction and development of socialist states were guided by Marxism theory, and more importantly summarize the lessons learned during this process, so as to provide help for further boosting China’s institutional reform, stabilize and develop the national economy and finally realize the ideal of communism. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is to deepen our understanding of Marxism ownership theory, which is as same as all other excellent ideas of human society. Marx is based on analyzing the material interest relationship in the view of historical development, excavating the relations between human and human, human and nature as well as human and society hidden behind, and then gradually forming the relatively complete ownership theory. This part firstly analyzes the origin of Marxism ownership theory, and then takes the development and change of productivity as the clue to analyze the connotation and features of Marxism ownership theory different from other ownership ideas based on reviewing all ownership ideas existing and prevailing in human society before the production of Marxism ownership theory. The second part discusses the inheritance and development of Marxism ownership theory in the Soviet Union, which was the first socialist state in human history. Several generations of leaders in the Soviet Union inherited and developed the ownership theory in the extremely adverse internal and external surroundings, and the great achievements were made when building the country, but they grasped its principles and basic concepts dogmatically and broke away form the reality of social development. Finally, the core of CPSU leadership headed by Gorbachev deviated from Marxism ideology, carried out the comprehensive reform blindly and radically, and ultimately failed, which resulted in the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the development road of Marxism ownership theory also came to an end in the Soviet Union. In the detailed elaboration, the author analyzes Lenin’s ownership theory and Stalin’s ownership theory respectively and introduces the backgrounds, theoretical features and actual influences on the social development when they developed Marxism ownership theory. The third part introduces the inheritance and development of Marxism ownership theory in China. As the largest socialist country after the Soviet Union, China is also a country with the flourishing development, great achievements and vigorous energy of Marxism ownership theory. During the process of inheriting and developing Marxism ownership theory, China was once influenced by the Soviet Union for a long term, and also took detours or wrong paths due to the dogmatic understanding of ownership theory, but our party and state leaders adjusted the method of understanding the theory in time and grasped the direction of theoretical development. According to the historical development, two levels, namely the ownership theoretical development and practice before and after the reform and opening-up policy, are discussed respectively. The fourth part introduces the significance of inheriting and developing the humanistic spirits of Marxism ownership theory. Based on summarizing the the lessons learned of inheriting and developing Marxism ownership theory by China and the Soviet Union, the author proposes several basic principles of developing the ownership theory which we must stick to and grasp when promoting the construction of socialist society as well as the reform and opening-up policy after the Eighteenth National Congress of CPC and Third Plenary Session of the18th CPC Central Committee were held successfully. Besides, this part also discusses the contemporary value of Marxism ownership theory.
