Volunteer numerical strength, recruiting and managing volunteers as a measure of nonprofit's sustainability

Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between volunteer numerical strength and nonprofits’ sustainability (revenue, contribution, and assets). The study highlighted the underlying factors that may distinguish sustainable nonprofits from non-sustainable ones. The study utilized a quantitative methodology; the sample population is 87 nonprofits in Downtown Chicago area within the Zip Codes of 60601 and 60606. The researcher gathered secondary data from available published information. The result showed moderate and significant correlation between volunteer numerical strength and nonprofits’ sustainability. The study concluded that strategic positioning through strategic recruitment and management give nonprofits sustainability leverage. The study recommended the investigation of why some nonprofits with large number of volunteers performed poorly in sustainability factors.
