Abstract/Summary:
This qualitative study explored the epistemological value of six factors that psychologists might rely upon when considering the fictitious status of conditional competency to stand trial. Explored through the foundational concept of social constructivism, the legal environment and professional education and experience emerged as strong factors of influence; however, professional academic preparation and value-driven behaviors did not. The inter-relationships of these factors are described and suggestions are offered for further research.
